Mass first, 6 pack later. Your beanpole ass needs to eat!
i don't eat out very often, i avoid junk foods and soda. Once in awhile i will treat myself for a can of Nestea Iced Tea. I don't eat chocolate or candy bars, but my body still have a lot of fat all over my body..shit
Increase water intake, alot. And start your day off with something decent, like whole grain cereal.
I drink a glass of water as soon as I get up, then generic cheerios and 0% milk when I get downstairs.

If you want to avoid platueing you gotta jam the whey protein. I'm trying really hard to not eat fast food any more. The reason I don't have good abs is because I love fast food. But I had an egg mc muffin, and it wasn't tasty anymore, so I think I'm going in the right direction...

This is in reference to your post in the OT fitness thread:
i feel i am gaining muscle on my upper body, arms, shoulders since i worked out 2.5 years ago. but at the same time, i feel my stomach is getting slightly bigger than when i first started working out. what the hell? i already watched my diet, i know it's not perfect like most of you guys here. i already cut out a lot of junk foods, soda, etc. i already tried to eat smaller portion meals and more than 3 meals a day. someday it's impossible due to clusterfuck at work. i looked at the mirror when i was changing today and totally depress at my lower body and mid section
join the club brother. I've been working out non-stop or the past 10 months or so and have made some great muscular gains in my upper body, epsecially my arms and back...however I cannot get rid of my love handles. This week I've gotten a bit more strict with my diet but I'm not going to go over board.

I think my deal is I need to just lose weight. I'm 5'10" and about 180. I could stand to lose 8lbs or so.

i am similar height(5 11). I was about 175 at the start of June, 163 as of 2 hours ago. I wanna be 160 by the end of the month. I can finally see defenition in my mid section. I think 155 will be my ideal weight. 1500 cals per day for the last month is taking a toll on me, I always end up cheating on the weekend

5'11" 195-200. Right now I'm not too worried about the weight though. My strength is going up, and I'm not sure what I want to weigh. But I do know I'd like to get around 7% body fat by october...

Diet it the toughest part of a fitness routine IMHO, although I have been great on mine for about 3-4 months now..
7am Morning Snack before the trip to the gym for morning cardio ON 100% whey protein
10am Breakfast consists of :Either Steal Cut outs(1 serving)or Quinoa flakes(like oatmeal 1 serving) Plus 4 servings of Egg beaters with 2 servings of Pace Picante Salsa & 1 8oz glass of 8th continent lowfat soymilk, half serving of peanuts 435-455 Calories
1pm Lunch: 1 bag of Pictfresh steamers (4 serving of 30 calories each) & one grilled boneless skinless chicken breast 210 calories
about 4pm Afternoon Snack: Serving or Raisins(130 calories) & 1/2 ON 100% Casien protein(55 calories) shake, 1/2 serving of peanuts 105 calories
7pm Dinner : 1 bakes Sweet Potato (160 calories) One piece of fish(Orange roughy, Ahi Tuna, Canned Tuna, Escolar, Halibut) trying to stay around 130-150 calories, & 6 servings of boiled spinach 180 calories
Depending on how well I controlled my craving though out the day & if I had a weight lifting day add 2 serving of ON whey 100% whey protein one before weights one after, I meter my last serving of ON 100% Casein Protein to fill in the left over calories to reach my 1800 calories a day diet.. Could be 1/2 could be 3 servings of it..
That's what I try to stick to, I switch around the meat portion of my diet pretty well, sometimes I'll swap out some chicken or Fish for lean pork chops or Elk Tenderloin, rarely ever have beef though I crave it everyday!

Bake a sweet potato or two & then wrap them and put them in the fridge so you can eat them when ever, the natural sugar in them will help fight off the craving and a big one only has about 160 calories..

Is it me, or does whole grain pasta not really taste that good vs. standard? I really tried to get on the whole grain pasta. but I found that eating cardboard was just as tasty and easier.

Oh well, just over half a box left.

Here's a typical day for me (and again, we're talking only 5'7" 150): All meals are around 3 hours apart.
2 hard boiled eggs & 2 scoops of ON protein powder in water and 1 piece of whole grain toast.
1 cup cottage cheese with 10 fresh raspberries.
1 12oz can of tuna (made with fat free mayo, dijon mustard, and relish) with 12 Kashi Honey Sesame Crackers.
Spinach leaf salad with 1 1/2 chicken breasts cut into cubes, strawberries, carrots, feta cheese (small pinch of crumbled feta) and light raspberry vinagrette.
Dinner is something along the lines of chicken breasts (bbq or baked), pork chops, fish, etc, with quinoa and either broccoli or asparagus.
2 scoops of ON protein powder in water before bed.
===== Before working out I take 1 scoop of ON protein powder in water, after working out I mix 2 scoops of ON with water.
Just recently I've added raw almonds to my diet as a snack somewhere in the middle of the day, or after dinner.
Edited by WNDYCTYone (08/02/08 12:51 PM) Edit Reason: forgot some stuff

I am dieting as well, but I still cannot lose that last 8-10 lbs of body fat.
I am pretty good about the diet, 1500-1800 cals per day, lift 5 days per week, and cardio 6-7 days per week.
Any tips on how to lose it and keep it off. Sometimes I spike down real low, but am back up 4-5lbs by the next day. Its driving me nuts.

Cardio consists of biking (sometimes at the gym, but usually in the mountains). How many calories do you think hiking 3 miles uphill burns?
Breakfest: 2 hard boiled eggs 2 cups of coffee
snack: Granola bar
*workout followed by Protein shake*
Lunch: 1/2 chicken breast - either with some spinach and tiny bit of dressing, or on wheat toast.
Snack: handfull of almonds, or dried fruit
Dinner: 1/2 chicken breast with a small portion of vegetables. Sometimes whole grain noodles or brown rice instead of vegetables.
Protein shake about 2 hours before bed.

I've been cooking my chicken breast in olive oil, until today I looked at the nutrition facts and saw that per tbsp is 14g of fat! Is there another oil that is healthier? canola? vegetable? Well olive oil is heart-healthy fats. So while you don't want to go overboard, consuming some on a daily basis is perfectly fine.
