Post Master Supreme Registered: 02/23/00 Posts: 13053 Loc: NE OH	Awhile ago I made a post about a boat that was given to me from my dad. 1988 Bayliner Capri 1950 bowrider w/ OMC 3.0L 4cyl engine. At the time the boat didn't run and it hadn't seen water in quite a number of years. Just before my dad passed away I got the boat running. Shortly after I got it out on the water and enjoyed the last few seasons taking it out on Lake Erie. Well this year I got a bug up my ass and decided it was time to fix some things. There was some rotted wood in the rear deck cover, side covers, front support and rear seat. So I decided it was time to re-do the wood and re-vinyl the new pieces. Here's where I am right now. You can see the rotting pretty clearly. I also plan on replacing the jump seats with a pair of pedestal seats. Since the vinyl is so torn and the wood in the seats is rotten. I've still got a lot of work ahead of me but so far it's very rewarding. Last night I cut some new pieces and fiberglassed in the front support. Now I just need to finish cutting some additional pieces and start vinyling. The boat is pretty special to me because my parents had purchased it brand new in 1988, so there's a lot of great memories on it. Now I'm looking forward to creating some more memories with my own family. So here she is thus far. Here she is two years ago before I got her cleaned up and running. And here's where I'm at now As you can see I also re-painted the blower vents because they were a faded white before. Ive never liked boats, but MGD always talked me into getting on one anyhow. Plus I was delayed because I need a jigsaw to work on a few pieces to get the right cuts. It's a tedious process but it'll be worth it in the end. The boat will be a bit stronger and will last even longer. I guess there's just too much sentimental value for me to let it go. Plus like I said it's so much fun to get out on. Last year I got out at least once a week. I would just go before work or on the weekends. I actually did enough fishing that our freezer is still filled with perch...lol. The color is going to stay the same. Just going to wet sand and buff the shit out of it to get the gelcoat shining again. I'll worry about that once this structural stuff is done. Needless to say I can't wait!!! For me I had to do some house work as in re-seeding grass in the back yard and cutting down some branches. I'm still debating on doing a captain's chair there instead of a jump seat. I rebuilt the framing on the port side and did the vinyl w/ a lot of help on the sewing from my mother. Overall I'm very happy w/ the build. I spent just under $300 including all marine vinyl from JoAnn Fabrics, wood and hardware. I was delayed a few times due to some vinyl not being in stock and a sewing machine issue. So when it came to crunch time I decided I'd finish the starboard side after the boating season along w/ the carpeting. The lake was semi-calm early in the morning and I got to open her up a bit. I was very pleased to see the mph on my GPS.
