We'll even spot the rear mounted turbo three times the displacement. You be the judge............

racing from a roll... *yawn* doesn't really surprise me and it has nothing to do with turbo placement.

The "build" civic is more of a sleeper than that camaro. What with its shiney FMIC and turbo hanging below the bumper.

I like reading youtube comments. Always exciting, people naturally playing ALL the stereotypes and being 100% serious about it.

WOW, that totally disproved the performace of rear mounted turbo's!

Yeah I mean within the first 5 pages they covered JDM vs America, bad V8 MPG, 3900 curb weight, Skylines, Supras, cheapness of modifying imports, and everything else ridiculous you can think of.

So big fucking deal, the civic ran more boost. This hardly invalidates the idea of rear mounting turbos.

Putting the turbo farther away allows for more cooling of the exhaust gas, but this can be compensated for by running a smaller turbine.

The only theoretical drawback is that compared to a traditional engine mount, you convert less of the exhaust energy into work. I think the truth is that most camaros don't need all of that exhaust energy to drive a big compressor. It will end up meaning that the ultimate power limits are lower. Maybe only 1000hp is possible via rear mount.

Na, you can make well more than 1000whp rear mounted. The problem its just as retarded as turning the wrong wheels at the dragstrip. Sure you can be fast, your just fighting physics that you wouldn't have to fight if you did it the right way.

Fucking 10 foot long charge piping LOL.

I was just pulling a number out of my ass. If it spins up quickly and it produces 1000 or more hp, where is the fail?

If all it takes to work is a lot of displacement and displacement doesn't make the engine much heavier, why is this a bad thing?

Rear mount would diminish the power potential of a small 4 banger, but ellis is 3 times larger than that and shooting for the upper end of built 4 banger levels of power. It sounds like the only difference would be better durability and driveability.

How hard is it to mount a turbo up front in a Camaro? I thought they were pretty cramped and it was just easier to go rear mount.

At any rate rear mount turbo > no turbo. \:D

It's a tight fit but it's possible

Since when is there only one right way to mount a turbo?
Have you seen where they mount the turbo on most drag cars?
They mount it in the front bumper, 10 feet of exhaust leading to the turbo.

Odd how this Vette seems to overcome physics with a 9.33 @ 149 mph

I would agree it's not the optimal place to mount the turbo for ultimate efficiency, but it's not like the system doesn't work.

Edit: Even with one of the best aftermarket turbo systems for an ellis, and the turbo's mounted in the only "right place", the charge pipes are pretty long.

the length of that charge piping is nothign compared to covering the length of the vehicle..

rear mount is lame but I can appreciate the need for it cause of the lack of space... if you h ave the extra time mounting it in the car is defintely more optimal...

that video doesnt prove anything really since the cars are very different.
line up two camaros with identical setups(except one is rear mount)...that would tell you more.

those are local cars...

I wouldn't think the length of charge tubing means fuck all other that almost negligable spool time. Longer tubes = more cooling efficiency.

wow that civic has got some good traction. I couldn't dream of taking off like that with mine in second gear without lighting them up and that was with only 300whp or so.
