I did a search but didnt find what i was looking for or it was older than i thought...

Wondering if anyone has had any issues with the clear coat lifting up on their car? Around all four wheels, when i wash my car, it looks like a milky mess and growing. I went to the dealer today and had the car looked at, and the manager disappeared so i couldnt talk to him after my car had been in the detail shop. The tech i talked to said they need to wet sand the car and re-clear it. They dont have a body shop so it will have to go out to another dealer or a shop they deal with. Any suggestions on what to watch out for or ask about? I know a little bit about paint but didnt know you could just reclear a car? Anything i should make sure gets done? Waiting for the manager to call hopefully today, i'll update when i know more and all your input is apprecaited.

Some pictures would really help...

What year is your car? If it's the 06 in your sig, that sounds like it's WAY to early to be having paint problems... \:\(

It kind of looks like chemical damage to me. Drive through any weird puddles lately?

Its hard to tell by pictures alone but it does lok like acid rain or something like that to me. It appears as if it is on top of the clear. Did you/they try polishing it out? Is it actually eating away at the clear?

I thought it was on top of the paint too, I took it to the dealer and they polished it thinking the samething, but its not. If you look at the 4th and 5th pictures you can see it the best...it looks like little chips of paint are gone. Its worst around the wheels then fades up to the windo line. I've never seen this happen before in all the cars I have had. I've seen paint fade beofre it should but not look like its being eaten away. I am hoping that the dealer takes care of it, but if they cant approve it i will be talking to the Honda rep on Thursday and see what they say. Other wise I might be taking it out of my pocket which I will be thinking about a trade in if it comes to having to paint a 8 month old car! Any other ideas. Do you think it would be expensive to reclear the car compared to painting it

I noticed it back in December when I got back from vacation. I washed the car and it looked water was getting under the paint. I took it in then and they told me there was nothing wrong with it and it was on top of the paint. So I said ok and would get it polished and it should take care of it. Finally got the car it to have it done and it didnt fix the problem. Have been back and forth to the dealer trying to get answers...maybe this is the week i get an answer. Am I the only one with the problem? I have heard of other thinking Hondas paint is thin.

I dont know what Honda's warranty is regarding paint but for a car that is 8months old, that is definitley NOT a civic wide problem. I would get a third party who wetsands to get another estimate about how damaged the paint really is..

Started showing up about a month ago...I went to the dealer today and of course it started pouring. The Fl for ya. They told me the want to put some sort of treat ment on it first before they go and paint the car. Anyone heard of a treatment to restore paint? Told me this was something that would "suck" all the moisture out from under the paint the reseal the paint and see if that takes care of the issue. It was hard to see because the car was wet, but how will this put clear back on my car when it looks like the paint is already being eaten away? I don’t know we’ll see what happens…thought the reason you bought a new car was not to have issues like this.

UPDATE...Dealer and Honda rep says its not a defect in the paint and I must have driven over something to cause the paint to start and flake off. They said it could be some sort of cement striper thats very acidic and is used offten down here. SUCKS, not only did i pay 2k over sticker for this car but now less than a year later i'm looking at painting the car, my expense. Anyone know if I have a leg to stand on to fight this under warranty??

It's really hard to fight them if it wasn't like that when you bought it.

edit: Try and find out if the car was repainted or touched up before resale. If it was than it's all on the dealer to fix it.

I understand how a dealer wants to keep there costs down and pay for warr. work as little as possible. But on the same hand if any of us bought a car with a problem "already there" what would we be thinking? Problems occur over time and thats why we have warr. right? Wondering what the best process would be to take to get into the ring on this and get it taken care of? Thanks for your help guys

Correct me if I'm wrong but the dealer does not pay for warrenty work, the manufacturer does. Its would be honda that would pay for it, but the case would have to do through the district service manager.

Looking at those pictures, it does look like you drove through something with that spattered pattern on there. You could try writing to honda and see what they have to say, just by-pass the dealer entirely. If you can locate the source of the acid and can prove that a company was dumping it into the road then you could go after them, little bit of a strech though. There can't be that many places that use concrete acid, comcrete plants or precast companies would be a start. Drive past any one your way to work? Good luck.

The dealer abso-fucking-lutely does not pay for the warranty work. In fact any smart dealer would pay their techs way more per hour for warranty work so they would fish for it and get honda to pay for everyones bill. Techs hate customer pay work because it doesn't pay shit. IMO honda has never made a good black paint, but that damage doesn't just happen beacuse of shitty paint. I agree and think that you must have driven through something acidic or you are using a really fucked up tire shine. As with regards to the dealer and honda warranty, I think you are SOL. I had a serious and defect worthy warranty claim on my old exploder after 1 year and Ford basically told me, pass. Paint is to automotive warranty as acts of god are to insurance policy.

You should just key the fuck out of your car and say it was vandalism... Then your insurance has to re-paint it...

/joke ;\)

(seriously tho, don't do that... It's insurance fraud)
