So, had a Disobey Stop Sign ticket from last fall, and went to 'fight' it ... Pretty much first time trying to do this myself...

In the past, used X-Copper once, RedLine Legal a number of times, so it was all just be anxious and wait. Expensive, but got me off all the tickets.

I got some 'tips' and all that from a TPS friend, but in the end, it was all the same. I ended up getting a lower ticket, but still points / conviction on my driving record.

Court is also virtual or in-person, and the prosecutor during the 'deal-making window' before actual court is vicious ... Judge was very nice, but in the end it's like they were all reading off a script for the most part.

Cops do show, moreso than ever, whether in-person or virtual. Of the 20+ various tickets I witnessed, only 1 got withdrawn, no adjourments, none 'went to trial' that I could tell.

If you're bored out of your mind, you can join the virtual courtrooms as an 'observer'. They're all open to the public, so if you want to take a shit in a toilet paid for by your property tax, you can do so as well.

I went to the Halton court house and there's barely anyone there, place is new/clean as hell.... what a waste.

1 white defendant had legal counsel show up to represent. 95% of the defendants were brown immigrants. I was the only Asian. All the popo were white ... being Halton and all... Shooting fish in a barrel man ...

1 older guy said he's a driving school instructor, 50+ yrs, retired now, and the red light ticket was from a student, not him, good moral citizen of the community, raises money for the local blah blah stop you right there etc...

Had a number of HOV-lane defendants as well, all no contest, guilty pleas.

The whole 'ask the prosecutor if the police officer has checked in' got dismissed by the prosecutor, indicating 'I don't need him, I have enough to proceed' .... My buddy said that's a bluff, and you can choose to proceed, and if he is not present, you can blah blah wish to question my accusers etc. etc.... Not sure how that would stand because you'd still need a strong argument re: the video evidence.

In my case, I asked for disclosure, but only got the notes. I had to ask again for video/audio disclosure 2 days prior, and got it 1 day prior.

Walking up to the prosecutor saying 'I don't have disclosure' won't help your case, but again, alot of it is bluffing and/or not knowing the way of the legal.... Man, just .... sucks man.

I'd imagine to fight a not-so-crazy speeding ticket now is probably $1200-1500? (My guess, based on my previous use of these ticket fighters)

interesting experience furball, thanks for sharing. it's a good read.

so theoretically, if you get another ticket would you use those legal services again?

or just forget it and try it yourself?

what were all the brown guys in for?

CASH GRAB!

Kudos for trying.

I got a parking ticket a couple years back for parking in a fire lane outside my kid's school picking them up. The signs were faded where you could only see a red circle on a white background. No parking enforcement came up to me to let me know I should not have stopped there to pick-up my kid. I just got the notice in the mail weeks later. They have a thing called the "Administrative Monetary Penalty System" in Markham. Basically it's a fine with no option for a trial. You can pay it, try to have it reduced, or speak with an adjudicator. I requested my disclosure, which was garbage. I brought in my evidence of the sign being faded. The adjudicator looked at it and said, I can read the sign, while the other people in the room conceded that the sign was not at all legible. It was literally a white rectangle. I challenged him on a few other things but he would budge. I did get him pretty riled up though. So then afterwards, I went and asked for disclosure of the hearing ... they magically lost the recording. System's rigged.

It is all a cash grab. I did the same for a stop sign ticket I got and I had it reduced. Since I put my car on and off coverage during winter/summer, they pulled my abstract. The ticket likely increased my premium from $800 to $1000 x 5 years. Not sure if a ticket fighter could have got me off so the result is likely no difference either way financially.

Noticed there has been a lot more mobile speed cameras in Markham as well with minimal signage. I can't wait to see those tickets pop up in my mailbox.
