I swear the garbage guy has a vendetta against me, after years of me hiding the grass under yard waste. The best part, he kicked the hole and left it.. it rained all day. Bag ripped in two when I got home and tried to move it. FUUUUUUUUCK

How do you guys mulch your grass and then what do you do with the mulch? Use it as compost?

Mower without the bag, mulch it back onto the grass... that's it.

Ah ok, "mulching" is just the act of leaving the clippings on the ground. I thought there was more to it.

Just make sure you don't let the grass get too long. If you let it grow out and don't bag the clippings the clumped cut grass can choke out your growing grass.

Yep. And this is why I have to cut two/three times a week.

I'm mowing every other day. Conditions have been perfect so far this year for growth.

Make sure your mower has mulching capability. All it is is an attachment that forces the cut blades to circulate for an extra second around the blades to chop them up more finely before dropping them on the lawn. Not all mowers have this.

I lost that attachment, so fuck it, I just remove the bag and let it do whatever it can

ok update to my last post a month ago.

before (after dethatching and throwing down triple mix)

after

before (after dethatching and throwing down triple mix also)

after

as for the front, I threw down some starter and some magic carpet. thanks to all this rain, my lawn has come back from the dead. it's pretty lush. i am happy with it.

the backyard looks better in the photo and in real life. it has not filled in yet though... still kinda disappointed. I've been overseeding like a mad man. it's still patchy as F. i might just wait till the fall and try this again. the crabgrass in the middle needs to go and some sort of weed is growing near the side of my house which I have no idea how to get rid of.

like wtf is this weed? it's everywhere. (no it's not strawberry lol)

You're doing great man. Unfortunately the weather has been shit for growing great lush grass. The rain is perfect, but the temps at night keep dipping below 15C so it kills off some seed.

Just keep to the process and hope for better weather (warmer at night), without it getting too hot during the day. Then once it's all thick and nice, use the good weed killer and kill all the unwanted crabgrass & shit.

Zaius, looking great. The seed will grow, just need to keep making sure water hits that seed daily. I have been watering my lawn everyday even if it rained (I grew my lawn from seed). My front lawn was completely dead, like your starting backyard picture, it's now fuller than your front yard pic!

I'll keep going back to what TY suggested, peat moss. It protected the seed and insulated them from the cold. I'm 100% sure it's the main reason the yard grew out so well.

Peat moss and daily watering is your friend...

Before

Amending soil

Result (no peat moss)

Today (after peat moss)

Thanks guys, the project started on April 14th so that gives you a good idea of what can be done in a pretty short amount of time. Just takes water, peat moss, starter fertilizer and you're set. Can't wait to head to the states to get some Milorganite.

Anyone have issues with mushrooms? My front lawn has some. I pick them out throw down iron rich fertilizer and they still come up. I've done that about 3 times now.

Anyone know someone selling a lawn tractor? I just need something cheap like $500-$700. I've been lowballing on kijiji but no takers yet lol
And anything in that price range is too far away to make it worth the drive

Mine broke and still waiting on parts \:\( Grass is getting past the shins now!

No seriously. Is that really your front lawn or trolling? Looks like a new development at which point won't they be laying down new sod at some point?

Welp...

I tried real hard this year, no weeds, no off colour spots, no dead spots. Cutting the god damn lawn three times a week.

It all went to hell with all the rain, I have pooling now for some reason, and the 1x1 spot has since turned into a 4x4 spot. The grass is dead, it smells like swamp. I have no clue wtf to do. I think I'm going to fill the area with limestone screening and put an outdoor fire pit in the space.

Take a quick picture. There's no way the grass should be dead with this amount of rain we've had. Pooling is okay, obviously depends on how much. Take a quick pic, could be a simple fix.
