Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for Dec

everyone hate 30 day challenges? Good, here's another!

Run a mile, post your best time! As part of a repeat is fine. As a tempo in the middle of a run, also fine. Using stop/start and 200/400 repeats or similar: not fine \:\|

OP will be maintaining a list. Yes it's hot. Who cares.

Since I stalk some of you guys I'll go ahead and post the best mile splits I see lol. And starting this week because this is my thread.

1] stickaz: 6:06/mi [8/10 effort on a mile-PR only goal day)
2] cierrecart: 6:28/mi [part of an easy 11, -20' net elevation ]
3] sjpotato3: 6:46/mi [part of an easy 10k with a faster mile thrown in]
4] ampsman: 7:28/mi [part of a 8 miler, +11 elevation]
5] impulsive: 8:30 [part of a 12k ]
6] dirtays daughter stroller push: 8:46/mile [part of a 2 mile geriatric thing]
Special categories for sub 8/7/6/5 :D, most improved [and least improved!] as well

OP's value added tip: at a typical 400m track, a mile is 1609 meters. That means pace off ~31 [30.66!] feet past the finish line. Stick a water bottle there. That's your finish line. Also this assumes lane 1 running.

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

'Threw' down an approx 8:15/mi on the treadmill, consisting of 2 mins on 6:27/mi just to shake my HR out of zone 2 followed by easy/9:09 pace. 1* incline and standard sweat spray pattern. Looking forward to a mile repeat workout on Friday or sat when it's like 100*F lol, going to try and nail the first one.

Only did 3.5 miles last night heh, kinda burnt

This is not something I care that much to try. My fastest was 6:18 as part of an 9k run, but looking at the map, it looks like the GPS was zig zagging a bit so not real.

The most accurate one was the start of a 12k run where I was pushing the first 5 k and ran a 7:10. My last run was an 8:30 as part of an early morning 11k.

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

I will allow it. Those of us of a certain age in the US grew up with the mile as some kind of conditioning program/goal/end-all/universal distance all in itself to benchmark against one another.

The metric equivalent would be a 1500m I'm pretty sure? Don't think the 1600m is a big deal internationally at all [if any], but those are easy enough to convert.

Still on a track a 1600m is super easy to pace off. Anyways I like the distance, it's a good way to show a little bit of speed which I think is fun-ish. Less of a burn than a 5K I think.

We did 1600m in school. I don't know what they do now, whatever the Olympics do I guess.

Update your files, OP. \:D

It was at the end of an 11 mile run and on the heels of a 317 mile month, so it's not my full potential, but whatevs.

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

Strava sort of sucks for this since it tracks miles on a the basis of splits from the start, rather than any single mile being fast on a given run. I think it also 0's out non-moving time unless it's an "segment"

Throw me in, looks like 8:46 on my 2 miles stroller push return to running after 4 weeks of cycling.

Now I'm sort of curious if I can hit 5:30.

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

I'm sure you're close if not actually sub 5:00

Me I expect to sneak into the 5s tomorrow in the heat of the afternoon heat wave here (90s) on my first mile repeat or at least hopefully puke trying \:o
Don't think it will be too hard for me to sneak under 6, my last mile repeat day I wasn't really pushing and went 6:15, trying to keep a level effort for all 3 if not 4 mile repeats. Just gotta go and Google the 400m splits for a 6:00/mi pace because the GPS watch gets super inaccurate in the corners and is basically useless

Feels oddly badass to old school time it with a stop watch/lap counter (My GPS watch does that too like I'm sure everybody's does)

I ran a 5:56 last year. As a full time runner and someone who's half my size, I would suspect you can run sub 5...

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

^that's fucking awesome bro. I have a strong feeling you'd smoke my ass 10 times out of 10 [probably that doesnt surprise you tho hehe]

pre-announcing my failure to break 6 minutes today

I'll give it a go on a 4x1 mile repeat set on numero uno. Probably 400m WALK between each because I am weak as fuck. Hoping to hit 160 HR for much of the final 400m's of each of these mile repeats but I'll pre announce my failure to ALSO hit that hehe.

*however, learning how to get faster/run hard is a process, I'm definitely getting faster. I wouldnt have dreamed of going sub 6 last year and I think the year before that I was lucky to break 7 heh

Just learning what it 'feels' like to run at/around 6:00/mi pace would be a good goal for today. Try to get into that range a bunch and hold it on mile 1 of the repeats even if I miss it a bit. For the rest I'll go much easier and target is 6:30--6:40 or so-- eg 5K race pace based workout which is good for my actual break 20:00 goal

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

I guess bump mine to 6:46.

I've never actually run a mile at max speed... nor even a 5k now that I think about it. Gonna have to try it one day:

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

I'm guessing youre 18:xx speed :p

https://www.strava.com/activities/611640601
HR avg was ~153, peaked around 156 near the end so I was just getting anaerobic there in the back half a bit. Need to dig deeper

my first mile repeat tonight I went 6:14 /not horrible. not terribly hot out [75*F], but I wasnt feeling super energetic/dead legs. Had biked 20m and did masters swim the day before, whatever not unhappy about it, still kinda learning how to run at/around 6:00/mi pace, almost made it heh

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

gonna try again for a 'fast' mile in December

anybody with me?

I was planning on nailing the first mile of a mile repeat workout that would normally be around my 5k pace [6:40 ish], but I'll try to buzz it around 5:50 if possible I guess. I feel slightly more comfortable about pacing around the 6:30 level but I think I'll have to try and learn the 6:00 pace with a couple intervals first. will probably tire me out so I'll do those on a different day

my fastest recent mile was either an 8:00 flat on the treadmill last night or like a 6:30 track first mile on a mile repeat day last month. Also TT'd some 5ks with a 6:35 first mile last month

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

Of course you bump this after you know:
my local track is closed
I reinjured my feet running fast

Regardless, I'm going see whatever you run and target it on the 31st

Re: Post your best mile [or mile repeat for kenyans] for June?

Went 6:06 now, watch thinks it was 5:55 heh. But for sure it was 6:06, standing start and 9.34 meters past the lane marker after lap 4. Ah well, felt pretty solid. Went out a tick too fast but it was probably ok (saw 1:27 first lap, first 200m was way too fast for me at :41 tho /oops)

Came through 800m just unde 3:00 on pace for ~6:00 but then faded a little. So close!
Not horrible imho for not being able to go above 10mpw or so since my injury in July I guess /excuses
