So, I suck at squats, so I'm using the machines. At the gym there's the 'straight' leg press, versus a 'swing-like' leg press. I for some reason prefer the swing one. Good, bad, stupid? Same muscles worked? |

Yep. I never did leg presses regularly myself. The machines just don't compare at all unless you like to press numerous plates for ego. |

Define "suck at squats." Not using much weight? Bad form? Both? |

I wish I had a leg press at barbell brigade. =( |

I love, love leg presses but I squat first, then add presses to the mix on leg day. For me personally, I wouldn't substitute them for squats.... |

With the leg press they feel strong and accomplished stacking multiple plates on the machine, where as they struggle with less than 200# with barbell squats. OP, get comfortable doing squats. Back squats, front squats, high bar, low bar, etc. Don't worry about the numbers. |

or if your gym has a hack squat add that too... if you're going to do leg press I recommend doing some 1 legged work as well... and PLEASE don't round your lower back... |
