2 months in and its starting to get fun...

3 months ago my wife and I started going to the gym. For the first month all I did was cardio. Then the past two months I have been weight training. It was rough at first, but now, it feels so good to watch the weight stack up each workout. Very motivating. I this week I also changed up my routine. For the first seven weeks I was doing 2 sets of twelve on each exercise. This week I started doing sets of 10-8-6. Feels much better. I feel like it is a much better workout.

When I started working it I was barely able to squat the bar. Today I got up 115 6 times. Felt damn good. My current goal is 150 squat, 125 bench, 150 dead lift. And also slowly going up on each of my other exercises. Feels good man.

Just 38 years old and never really worked out before on a regular basis. I work 60 hours a week as a chef, so I am trying to work up slowly so I don't hurt myself. I am sure I could put up a lot more one time, but I don't think that would be any help. I am more than happy taking it slow and steady. I DM adding 10-15 pounds each workout. I am in no hurry. \:\)

Or he hasn't been taking into account the 45lbs weight of the bar.

I think when you are new (even though 2 months is some time if you are working hard) it's hard to know what anything like maximum exertion feels like. I'd bet with a good workout partner he'd be pressing more weight real quick.

Probably. He'll get there, though. There's no hurry.

Re: 2 months in and its starting to get fun...

well, I am trying hard. \:\) sorry my bench isnt what some think it should be. but its where I am at. I just got done working out, and I feel good about it. I got my squat up to 175, deadlift to 165, military press to 95, bench to 140 and barbell row to 110. I like the progress I am making. I feel I can do more on each exercise, but I have only been training 2 months now. I am into my 5th week. doing this mostly on my own, with help from the internet, I am trying to not push myself into injury. I add weight to each exercise each workout, until I hit a point where the gains are slow or just not coming. Its at that point I feel I will be in decent enough shape to start a 5 day routine specializing much more each day.

For now, I like how its going. I feel sore, but good after working out. but not in so much pain I can barely move. its a good feeling to be honest.

You're coming along just fine; everything you listed sounds pretty balanced.

I had to up my intervals a few weeks ago because there was no soreness after. I felt like I plateaued. I switched up a lot of exercises and started more drop sets. Now I'm getting nice and achy again.
