Got me a workout partner...

I feel he'll be reliable, and we can push each other... wish he was on my weight level (he's gonna lag behind me on alot of lifts, he's like 5'6" and only 140ish pounds, but he's pretty strong or his size), but i think we'll have good chemistry...

Stoked about it... gives the the opportunity to go for shit i wouldn't before, cause i don't like asking for spots, cause too many morons don't know how to properly spot someone either...

Monday is a new era... back in business baby... should start the week around 200 pounds @ 17-18% bodyfat... gonna keep rolling a deficit until i hit 195 @ about 15%, then start upping my cals little by little until i reach a maintenance level, and then start trying to build some mass back on...

long term goal is to start a full bulk by June - July, and get up to 210-215 by January 1... then start a slow cut (20-24 weeks) and maybe compete in a show... this is all predicated on where i am at at the end of the year... i feel i need to be at 210-215 @ 15%ish...

Then if i can cut down to 190 @ 5%ish, i should be carrying enough mass to at least try my first show... we'll see how it goes, and how my ability to add muscle goes... 15 pounds in 6-7 months is a lofty goal but i think it can be done... even if i only get to 207, i can still cut to 190 even 185 and be shredded... my issue is 6'2"... seems like bodybuilding is not for the typical 6+ footers, unless you're a freak...

Re: Got me a workout partner...

I wish I had a workout partner. But, playing soccer 6 days a week and going to the gym at funky times just doesn't work for a partnership. Oh well.

Just wanted to revisit this thread and say that a workout partner makes a world of difference...

sucks cause i'll be losing him come January to the police academy... so it'll be courting time for a new bitch here soon... \:\(

He's made some great gains over the last 6 months as well, as he's up to about 148 pounds, and still fairly lean... little fucker is not far behind me on most lifts, but i just use the excuse that he's short and has T-Rex arms... hahahaha...

We're still here and lifting, just doing work instead of talking about it!!

lol at criticizing others for quitting and coming back in the new year. Im sure most who take a break won't come back looking like you did.

Re: Got me a workout partner...

I wasn't critcizing... stating an obvious fall off in poster activity... and my "break" was 5+ years dick...

but the whole quitting and starting again in the new year is fucking lame no matter how you slice it...

Nope, still at it. Started running a bit (see Cardio thread). Still at goal weight.

My cycling partner went away to grad school, but I've gotten so much faster than him that he'd only be slowing me down at this point (nobragdick).

I'm hoping to see a "how we did in 2012: before and after" summary thread sometime in late December.

I dunno.

I'm still here, but I don't have much to say.

I still play soccer every fucking day ( \:\( ), and all of my lifts are great except bench, which is in the toilet right now.

Re: Got me a workout partner...

I've never really taken any significant time off. Lifts are fine, but seem to have stagnated on the 5-3-1. I seem to always be at the same wall, at least this time, I'm leaner than before when hitting it.

Shoulder is acting up, so I might hit the doctor and look at surgery options. I did a decent bench workout yesterday and afterwards, it just felt loose.

In other news my twig legs still has my squat and deads at shit. Way too close to my bench levels. \:\(

Why did you move to a wide grip...?

How long have you been on the 531...? Maybe time for a reset...?

Re: Got me a workout partner...

The best way I'm able to activate my pecs is to pull my scapula down and back and not locking out at the top of the lift... If I lock out fully I feel it in my shoulders and tris more than the chest...

Wide grip...? Nah, I keep my grip shoulder width or just a bit outside... My chest used to really suck... Now it sucks much less... And I'm working out with 225 which was always a laughable thought to me due to my long arms, as I come all the way down on each rep...

Re: Got me a workout partner...

You're lifting too heavy then... You're likely not getting pec activation cause its just too heavy and tris are dominating the movement...

Personally I'd move to DBs for a period of time... I feel I can get a brewer squeeze in the full range using a DB vs a BB...

Re: Got me a workout partner...

This is true, but there's not enough carryover between DB and BB for me. I'd just supplement with incline.

I'll do my best.

Haven't had a workout partner in a while as I usually do my own thing and often times at odd hours, I'll ask one of the guys in the gym for a spot on bench though.

Re: Got me a workout partner...

Still here, hitting it at about 75%. Dieting throughout the week and being a fat fuck on the weekends. I'm still decently lean. I weighed in at 178 last week. From the "look test" I'd say BF is around 12-14%, abs are still showing.

I hit a motivational wall in when September rolled around. It happens every year. Football season is here, I want to party and not care. I'm going to feed my face until mid January then turn it up regarding the diet. I have a vacation coming in March....gotta be shreddsss.

OP, what kind of show? What class?

That weight is small for the height, but you could hang. Recently they introduced the men's "physique" class. It's a bit douchey, but bodybuilding in general is strange. There you see the taller/longer guys that can't pile muscle on top of muscle. At the higher level you see some pretty freakish looks. 6'4", 220 and shredded.

Re: Got me a workout partner...

I plan to compete in the bodybuilding class... The figure just seems like for guys that don't want to diet down enough... You can get away with like 7-8% in figure vs 4-5% in BB...

I'd end up in tall division which depending on show could be anywhere from 5'10+ or 6'+...

Or "physique"... I guess I used figure cause that's the ladies equivalent...

Re: Got me a workout partner...

I've only been to one amateur show that had the physique class. It's only been around a year I believe. A few guys filed out in board shorts and I was like wtf.

The guy who won was huge and ripped he towered over everyone, the rest were mehh. I've only been impressed with that class at the pro level. They have a more "natural" look when compared to your typical roided BB.

Re: Got me a workout partner...

The physique class I saw at the show I went to in June, the guys looked horrible... You can actually cross over into both classes if you choose... I just don't know what exactly the physique class is looking for...

It's not for me in general, but might not be a bad thing for a first show, or a show leading up to a show you plan to be in the BB class...

Re: Got me a workout partner...

I'd say it comparable to womens bikini in regards to scoring, more natural I guess, but I've seen a few guys that were 100% not natural so who knows. I don't know what they are looking for exactly but I'm pretty sure if you're crazy dry like a typical BB, they take off for it.

My friend is a pro trainer and promotes a show in the spring. I may test judge it for fun. I also need to get around to going to the Olympia with them. The mecca of muscle freaks.

Re: Got me a workout partner...

My weight lifting has taken a big hit since I started BJJ and MMA training. I train there 4-5 times a week and that takes a lot out of me. My weight dropped into the high 130's and I'm struggling to gain any. I had to compete in the 149 division at 138, because I couldn't make it down to 135.5. I'm getting my diet ramped up and I'm going to hit the weights as much as I can so I can be higher in the weight class come the next tourney.

My newb ass is still here, mostly lurk now. I'm building back up to where I was before 3 months of traveling/no gym, plus a tweak back messed up my squats/dl.

Plus it's snowboarding season now. Number one priority is not getting injured and number 2 is building stamina at this point.
Just chiming in to make sure op doesn't think everyone's "off the wagon".
