What's up Fitness Peeps?! Encourage me!#!

I forgot this forum even existed. After the "be honest, who's fat" thread, I decided to come over here and start lurking. Anyway, Im gonna try and get serious about this health, eating, and working out shit.

For the longest time Ive been having issues with sleep and everything. Back in early December, I went to a new Dr and he basically said I cant sleep because I have too much anxiety, I show signs on depression, and because Im becoming a fat piece of shit. Anyway, he gave me some anti-depressants (Elavil), said I need to go really work out (not just weights, but challenging cardio), cut ties with people (read: women) that are causing stress, and find a hobby to relax my mind.

I figure, I'll make working out my hobby and kill two birds with one stone. All I eat is fish, chicken breast, steak, rice, soups, veggies, fruit, etc. Cut out burgers, fried everything, Mexican food, soda, gooey cheesey stuff, etc.

Been using this 3-day workout for the past month. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/matt89.htm .. Thinking of trying the 4-day now. Also doing 30 mins of carido at least 5 times a week. 3 Mile run or 35 mins on elliptical..

Took this pic awhile back, but this is basically how I looked on Dec 4.. 200lbs.

Took this pic today.. 187lbs..

If I can get down to 175ish, Ill be like I was 12 years ago after graduating boot camp \:D

I'm not a big fan of that routine, but if it's working for you, there's no real reason to change it.

If you do, I suggest you start here:

Yeah, it's not TERRIBLE by any means. But I'm just not a fan of such high reps. It doesn't tend to build dense, hard muscle, but softer, more bloated muscle. Plus, lower reps make you hulk strong!

Re: What's up Fitness Peeps?! Encourage me!#!

Definitely check out Starting Strength as mentioned. But no matter what you do make sure it has squats, bench, overhead press and deadlifts.

For cardio, try to hit up some sprints a few times a week instead of doing slow/medium pace jogging all the time. If you can sprint outside, do it. If you can't, you can use the incline on the treadmill to still give yourself a brutal workout. 20 minutes total for warmup/cooldown is plenty if your going all out.

Since you're coming back from long layoff, make sure you are warming up good, stretching a lot and foam rolling if you have one at the gym.

Agreed w/ it seems like you're well on your way. Just stick with it and the results will follow. I would personally recommend counting your calories for about a week just so you have a ballpark as to where you are. Eat what you normally do and see where you stand. From there, you can adjust accordingly to reach your goals.

Re: What's up Fitness Peeps?! Encourage me!#!

Yea, Im gonna need to start packing my own lunches. I go out to lunch with coworkers everyday, and some of the places they go really make it near impossible to get a lunch that isnt 1k calories. My dinner and breakfasts are fine, but eating out for lunch is my undoing.

Just getting my home (well garage) gym setup. Built out a power rack, flat bench, and Vulcan USA bumper plates (ooh pretty colors!) with 28.5 mm Olympic bar. No more gym membership for me. Fucking stoked.

Ahah thanks.. what I really need is better chest pumping workouts that I can do on my own without a spotter. Right now the dumbbell press is my main chest activity

Looking good man.
WHy can't you get a squater? Just ask a bro FFS.

/doesn't even lift bro anymore

My routine is run 30 miles (mostly with stroller and 25-60lbs of child) a week, 1-2 days rock climbing, 1-2 days mountain biking, 2-4 hours of hiking with 40lbs, 1 day trail building every other week

I probably need to at least add body weight shit back in, trail building does a good job of making me sore, and climbing is work for fucking sure.

On one hand I hate having such a light number on the scale and barely fitting smediums, but fuck it, I'm functional for my lifestyle.

Think Im about 190.. would rather be like 185, but as long as my pants are in the 32-34 range, I'm OK with it.

Come at me bro!

No, don't actually

I dropped down to 145 after last weekend, but have made it a goal to get my ass back in the 150-155 range. I was about 175 when I moved to Portland.

Lol actually yea.. basically doing those same exercises. I switched out a few.. Like on the Biceps/Back day, I ditched a couple of the curls and replaced them with Back exercises. I felt like 3 or 4 different variations of curles was kinda redundant.

Looking great bud...

I'm about to make one of these threads myself. I can't for the life of me stay motivated to workout consistently. I know I've always had a problem being impatient, so I'm guessing I stop cause i'm not seeing progress.

I have started to changed my diet which is really going to take some getting used to, but I know that all the working out doesn't mean shit if you eat terribly.

Will be starting that thread, but that's awesome you have kept on it for this long. I'm hoping I can do that same.

Re: What's up Fitness Peeps?! Encourage me!#!

5'10" 205 lb currently, ran 2.5 miles at 8 min a clip followed by flat bench with 275 x 5 then 315 x 1 then 225 pause reps x 5 then Moore's press x 3 sets followed by a 110 lb DB x 7 reps. I didn't include warm-up sets. I felt powerful. Just had to update and maybe resurrect this thread. Looks like the last post here is just before quarantine, lol, coming into this thread is like walking around in a post apocalyptic world.
