Before and After - Post up 2 of yours!

I thought it'd be cool if we could see some before/afters of each others edits. In an effort to avoid reposting tons of photos into one post, just select two pictures and post the before and after of each. Any comments/criticisms are welcome!
My edits are all done in Lightroom.

I like #2... #1 is really over saturated.
Great thread idea, I love seeing the magic some of these guys do in post (Nate, Fil, etc etc).

The 2nd one, I like the B&W edit, but still really like the before.

My 2 minute edit. I wish I had the RAW as JPEG color correction fucking sucks in LR. I think you went a bit too far with things, although I probably went a bit too far with other things...
edit - if I were to keep that, I'd use PS and some content aware to remove the people in the background. Fuck them

i don't like that crop... you lose some clouds/sky, it's not an attractive aspect ratio, just doesn't seem like a balanced image.

I agree, and now the image looks warmer. I generally prefer a cooler white, but that's my preference.
I always try to keep the original aspect ratio where possible. People in that background don't bother me either. Something maybe a little cloning could take care of if it does bother you though.

I shot the bison in RAW and that gave me a ton of latitude in Adobe Camera Raw to bring up the exposure on the bits that were too dark and to tweak the colors into something that caught the mood of the moment better (essentially less blue, more yellow). Just checked the PSD file (where I saved with all the layers in PhotoShop). Essentially the background is one layer, the V shaped tree is another and the bison is a third, with 2 adjustment layers acting on the bison to get the shadows and highlights and sharpness just right (or just right to my tastes - others may have done differently).

I couldn't figure out the best angle for that photo. I'm open to suggestions. I don't think it looks bad as is but what would you recommend?

Were you just firing off a bunch of shots at 1/30ish or so just hoping to grab some lighting because I don't see any camera shake or motion blur of players. I know at that distance, you won't get much motion blur as long as you keep it under a second shutter speed.

I agree, I like it a lot too.
I'm also wondering how you got so much lightning in such a fast shutter speed.
I'm kind of surprised that they let a DSLR into a major league baseball game.
Nice capture though, awesome!

Yep, I was just shooting pics and reviewed them at home. I definitely got lucky in the capture. It was a WICKED storm and the sky was on fire with lightning.
