out damned spot... sensor cleaning & keeping it clean

Dropped off my camera to a local shop to get the sensor cleaned as it's gotten to the point where I basically couldn't have the sky or blank space in the frame anymore. Under a loupe my sensor looked like a dust bunny.
Any advice for cleaning it myself in the future? I tried a rocket blower and using the camera's dust removal shaker, no luck.
And now that it's going to be nice and clean, how do I keep it that way?

dry swaps, sweep from one side to the other. repeat down the sensor.

I've been using DSLR's since 2011. I've never seen any dirt on my sensors. I don't shoot as much as most of you guys though.
If you can swing it, maybe a second body is in order? At least that would help to keep you from changing lenses while out and about.
I'm sure this stuff is obvious, it is what I do though.
Change lenses in the car or indoors if possible.
If you must change lenses outdoors, face away from the wind.
Keep the body face down while the lens is detached.
Always keep the end caps on your lenses until put them on the camera.
If changing lenses indoors, take a quick look into the camera and at the lens looking for foreign objects.
Use your rocket blower and blow off both the lens and your body and flange area every time you change lenses.

Truth. I'm going to send mine in to CPS, just because I have free cleanings to use before the end of the year, and there are a few stubborn spots that won't come out.

Goddamnit... shooting as the sun came up (around 8am
) before my trip last week I noticed a new giant spec of dust. Haven't changed lenses since I got the sensor cleaned so it kinda pissed me off.Fortunately I purchased a blower after getting it cleaned and this time I was able to do it myself.
