'06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Have a new sedan and will be running in GS next year. Won't run R-comps this year so Falken 615 it is for now.
I'm interested to see what wheel offsets and tire sizes people are running or would suggest. Looking at all the wheels available, seems the offsets run from +40 to +50. May not be a big deal but would like some real world experience.

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

I got a good deal on some Enkei RP-01's last year. Stock 17x7, 45mm offset. They are around 15lbs. Picked them up for $100 each. The deal we got went away rather quickly though!

Many people run the Kosei K1 in the 17x7 40mm offset. They are lighter than my Enkei's by about a pound, but also cost twice the price of the Enkei's (when I bought them).

You can run any offset between 40-50mm though. If 45mm+, get a spacer to widen the track would be suggested.

For tires, I ran 245/45-17 Kumho V710's. I had very minor rubbing issues when using those tires and the 45mm offset wheel. On full-lock, I had a little bit of the inner fender well lining rub off. Very minor though. I also popped out a few fender liner clips due to the tall tire. There was no strut contact though.

I am likely going to run Hoosiers next year though. Either a 245/40-17 or maybe even the narrower 225/45-17. I will likely test both.

I don't think 245/45-17 is the way to go. Mike (who will likely chime in shortly) ran the 245/45-17 Falken 615 on his Si in our local street tire class. I often was even with him or beating him with the stock 215/45-17 summer tires when I ran street tire with him. Obviously, they have a lot less grip. I think the wider 245 street tires have trouble heating up and really effect the gearing too much.

I am going to run 225/45-17 RE-01R's or RT-615's next year for street tires.

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Sam,
Thank you very much for information.
I'm having a hard time thinking today (maybe it's the 8"+ of ice and snow here), I've got another question about the offset: will reducing the + offset (ie. +45 to +40) widen the track? If I stick with 45, were do you get good quality spacers (I assume 1/4" spacers).

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Yes, reducing offset widens the track. I never ran spacers this year. I bought some cheapies off of ebay in case I had rubbing issues, but I never used them since the rubbing I had was so minor.

PS-10 inches of snow here so far!

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

I would also suggest Kosei K1's. Nice and light.

615's aren't bad. I auto-x'ed on them last season (in my ITR). Great tire to have without going to R comps.

Samkarp -- How did you fare against Mini's? They were doing pretty well in my local events.

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

The Kosei TS you guys mean right? The Kosei K1s are like 17lbs whereas the TS are 16 (if memory serves me right).

I'm waiting for someone to show up with a 2007 Si. I would like to give it a whirl \:\) Considering I've autocrossed every Honda brand so far \:\) S2000, TSX, Accord, Preludes, Civics, CRX, RSX, and Odyssey \:\)

The Kosei K1 TS is 14.1lbs in 17x7 w/+42 offset.

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Looks like it will be the Kosie K1 TS. My wife thought we would be spending much more money than I had planned on wheels/tires this year so the Kosie are in the budget now! It helps that she will be driving this year as well. She hasn't accounted for the extra wear/tear on tires with her driving, but we'll deal with that when the time comes. Will still run the 615s this year, the R-comps next year. We both need some time to get back into the swing of autocrossing the Honda's and she hasn't raced in 4 years.

Crash bolts are in and will get them installed in a couple of months and be ready to race!!!

With that said, we're covered in ice around here and it's freakin' cold!

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

I change my mind everyday, so until everything has been delivered, nothing is set in stone.
Here's my latest thought:
buy 6 Enkei's (17.5 lbs)
mount 4 615s and 2 R-comps
Will run the Rs up front and 615 in the rear for local events then probably drive on the 615s for out-of-town events, track days, etc since the family will probably be in tow and space is limited.
Considering my long term goal is not to win Nationals, I think this will make a good compromise for money, performance, space, etc.

Hey, I still have 2 weeks to go back and forth a hundred times before I need to order something...

Thats it! I quit GS. I'm gonna go chase Brock in STX. Damn R-comps.

Don't blame you! Waiting on tax info to come in... we'll see if I even get wheels/tires before the first autocross.

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Still patiently waiting for our season to begin and planning which out of town events we'll go to.
Trailer clean-up is scheduled for this weekend.
Got the new wheels/tires today from Racers Edge. They look great and I can't wait to get them on the car tonight.
Got some Avon R-As on close-out a week or so ago and am waiting on their wheels to come in.
Will be getting the bolts and an alignment soon.
My "high quality competition graphics" man should have my new numbers/letters soon.
Let's hope this great weather holds out and we have a great first event of the season on 3/25.
An the wait goes on.....

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

I just picked up 17x7 Enkei OR52s (18 lbs) at Edge Racing for $89 per wheel. It has a 38mm offset, so I am a little worried about the offset with 225/45/17 Azenis Rt-615s. I was also thinking of the Avons, but I wanted to get the tires mounted already and Tire Rack is really expensive for any brand name lightweight wheels. Oh well, maybe next year for the R-comps. At least I can still run GS when I go to SCCA this year.

MotorsportsNE is running their first event (Test and Tune) this Sunday at Giants Stadium. I am hoping I get the wheels in time.

Does anybody know where to get the best prices on the crash bolts? Where did the OP get them?

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

38mm will bump you out of GS.
You're allowed 1/4" (6mm), stock is 45.
I compromised and decided to try the R's up front with 615s in the rear (and took the lazy route since I'll run the 615 on the street for a while, I only have to change 2 wheels). The R's were a little added bonus on what I had planned.

I didn't shop around for the crash bolts, think they were $8 each?

Well that sucks. I have to run in STX or ESP over 0.65 mm of wheel offset. Go figure.

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Or you can have a good machine shop take 2mm off of each wheel center. Its been done before, but make sure you take it to a good place!

Or just don't tell anyone!

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Unless you run Nationals or have really picky competition, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just tell the others in G stock and let them make the decision. On the other hand, depending on the competition in STX it might not be a bad thing to change class. At least they can't run R-comps!

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Agreed. 99% of our people wouldn't care about that offset knowing that it really won't yeild a significant advantage. Move outside of your local to a Divisional, Tour or Nationals then you would certainly be bumped out.
Just let someone win every now and then and you should be fine.

Don't ask, Don't tell.

LOL, That won't be a big problem. I am typically very generous in this area. \:\)

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

Does anyone have experience running the Hoosier A6 245/40-17 on a 7 inch wheel? The spec sheet lists a minimum wheel size of 8". I am thinking of running them on the front of my '06 Si in GS.
Thanks

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

I am currently running the R6 in 225/45/17. These tires are already a little snug. I can't imagine that you could shoehorn a 245/40/17 on there.

Re: '06-07 Si G Stock Wheel/tire options?

245/40-17 fit on the car and wheel no problem. As long as your tire "guy" has a proper machine, there are no issues at all.

Thanks for the info.
I'll be mounting them today. Hopefully we'll see some fast Mini's at the Devens tour in 3 weeks to see where we stand.
