https://www.thestar.com/news/queenspark/...le-rebates.html Electric vehicle rebates going to be killed sooner or later by the PC govt. Quote: Ontario is getting ready to hit the brakes on rebates of up to $14,000 for motorists buying electric vehicles like the new Honda Clarity and Chrysler Pacifica hybrid. The purchase incentives, which were established years ago by the recently defeated Liberal government to kick-start a shift to low-emission cars, have been funded in part by the cap-and-trade program the incoming Progressive Conservatives are scrapping. Good!! |

I wonder who ended up paying for those rebates in the long run? All of us I'm assuming. |
I don't mind having paid for them, I think they were effective in getting cars on the road. I hope the rebates are slowly rolled back rather than cutting them off all at once. The take rate is with our high dollar is still not nearly as good as it is in the major US centres. |
that's too bad. not a good move. PC gov. cucks gonna have a lot of pissed off car manuf at them...which is one of the biggest industries ONT needs to survive lol |
Is it me... or would these incentives not have applied to Tesla's anyway? i.e. it only applies to vehicles < $75k MSRP? And .. this was an ONTARIO thing? i.e. anyone buying an electric vehicle OUTSIDE of Ontario, would be paying more? i.e. no incentives? (Never been into this shit, as I wasn't in the market.) |
Quebec, Ontario, and BC all have incentives for BEVs and PHEVs. Ontario's $75k and $150k limits are relatively new. There was a time when you could get the full rebate amount on a loaded Model S or X. Are you implying that you're in the market now? |
Not in the immediate future |
he's cutting the old plans, but has yet to announce any plans for the future, so suddenly we all just jump to the conclusion that there won't be some other program in its place in the future, we just assume its nothing for the rest of time (based on what the linked article is saying). Come on people. |

As if the average joe will be able to afford a tesla. Good move by PC |
without any incentive, now cars like the Bolt & Volt become harder sells at their price point. I was actually considering an electric car as my next daily.. but without the rebate, its not worth it for those vehicles. I'm hoping there's some sort of program moving forward that still provides something. |

The new rules were imposed because they were being abused. Cars being bought then disappearing out of Ontario. And I'm not talking being stolen either. Plus, if you can afford a Tesla, you shouldn't be getting back a rebate imo so that was a good move. |

If the car leaves Ontario within the year of purchase the rebate will be clawed back. |

fuck those rebates. i don't get a rebate for driving a 4 banger while dude next to me has a 6.3ltr v8 amg. |

yea, the system definitely needed a revamp. IMO, tax the car like they do in some countries, based on age/mileage/engine size. the people who use big vehicles for business will write it off anyways, and this will encourage other people to look into smaller/efficient cars or alternative transportation. |

I don't agree with the delivery date bullshit. If the car was ordered before the rebates were pulled, they should be getting a rebate. Delivery date has nothing to do with it. |

Agreed. My sister ordered a Bolt, but it won't get delivered on time. Now she has to go and buy something else. Pain in the ass. |

So what happens in this situation? dealer called her up said they can't get in time and ask if she wanted to back out of the deal? Which dealer was the order from? |

She gets her deposit back. Dunno which dealer it was, but there has been a 3-4 month wait time for the Bolt, so pretty much every buyer after a certain date would've been waiting. GM said they couldn't do anything either. If she decides that she doesn't want to pay $14k(?) more for the Bolt than originally planned, she will need to get something else. Maybe a non-electric. Not sure what she's decided to do yet. Originally Posted By: Hatorade Why does she need to get something else? What’s the alternative? |

IMO, residential wall chargers - up to $1500 rebate. maybe also offer something to businesses/malls to help build up an infrastructure. revive the old program but with changes... EV up to $50k - $5-15k rebate based on specs/battery capacity. 50k + - up to 5k based on specs/battery capacity. |

^ there was a rebate for businesses too. Workplace electric vehicle charger incentive http://www.grants.gov.on.ca/GrantsPortal/en/OntarioGrants/GrantOpportunities/PRDR018185.html |

This is sad... While we all laughed at the retards who put solar panels on their semi-detached home ... These incentives were a step in the right direction .. .I think? i.e. there was the counter argument that the mining and processing to gather the components (particularly in batteries) was hardcore fuuuucked. |

Well, its no doubt a big thing that people overlook is the whole manufacturing process and all the precious metals required to build these electric vehicles/solar panels/battery walls. But at least we're starting to move in that direction and hopefully over time, we'll come up with better technology, or better manufacturing processes. My issue with solar is if there's enough benefit given our winters? |
