Ontario is getting ready to hit the brakes on rebates of up to $14,000 for motorists buying electric vehicles like the new Honda Clarity and Chrysler Pacifica hybrid.

The purchase incentives, which were established years ago by the recently defeated Liberal government to kick-start a shift to low-emission cars, have been funded in part by the cap-and-trade program the incoming Progressive Conservatives are scrapping.

This is Doug Ford we're talking about ... Not some Nobel prize recipient or John Tory.

Is it me... or would these incentives not have applied to Tesla's anyway? i.e. it only applies to vehicles < $75k MSRP?

And .. this was an ONTARIO thing? i.e. anyone buying an electric vehicle OUTSIDE of Ontario, would be paying more? i.e. no incentives?

The new rules were imposed because they were being abused. Cars being bought then disappearing out of Ontario. And I'm not talking being stolen either. Plus, if you can afford a Tesla, you shouldn't be getting back a rebate imo so that was a good move.

Explain to me how these cars are disappearing out of Ontario? If the car leaves Ontario within the year of purchase the rebate will be clawed back.

I wonder who ended up paying for those rebates in the long run? All of us I'm assuming.

but BMW at least, won't even let people buy out cars that are known to be high value export vehicles.

I don't agree with the delivery date bullshit. If the car was ordered before the rebates were pulled, they should be getting a rebate. Delivery date has nothing to do with it.

While we all laughed at the retards who put solar panels on their semi-attached home ... These incentives were a step in the right direction .. .I think?

i.e. there was the counter argument that the mining and processing to gather the components (particularly in batteries) was hardcore fuuuucked.
