Rogers...rate incraese?

Over the past 3 years, I've noticed Rogers increasing their fees (this time it's internet service fee by $5).

Stated in their well planned letter i received, they are sorry that some customers were charged $5 without explanation (they ALWAYS state this, however ive never been charged and no one i know has) before a statement of increase was made. Rogers will credit the customers who were charged $5 back, BUT moving forward all Roger's customers will have their service fees increased $5.

WHAT THE JUNK.

First of all what a scum piece of company. I used to work for rogers and when they increased fees it would be moving forward on new plans or new upgraded plans or new plan switch, NOT current customers. WTF..

So the letter is an apology to no one, it's basically their way of a Notice of increase in service fees.

/rant.

What internet companies are you guys with?

They've done it several times.
Even you are in a contract.

Just noticed they updated my old First Gen PVR box.
It used to be fast, no lag, super intuitive FAV channel, PVR function.
Now fucking slow like the 2nd gen boxes and changed to the newer menu I don't like.

Today I'm getting Can-net installed, 150 cable service, unlimited for $50.00

jumping up from Fibe25, it should be a good upgrade / price savings.

I'm seriously starting to consider moving over to TekSavvy '150 Mbps Down / 15 Mbps Up' for $69/mth (Unlimited) ...

Can't figure a decent option for Rogers cable though ... We watch some of the popular channels (Much, CNN, TLC, CTV)

I'm sure you've read the horror stories about Cannet/CIK customer service as well as I have. Does that choice of yours simply come down to price?

As per the CRTC, they should be able to offer Fiber now... I have no clue if they actually do yet.

price is definitely an issue when its a difference of $20 vs teksavvy, and $50 vs Robbers.

Even if it slows down to 75, i'm still ahead of the 25 I was on with Bell.

as for the issues, from what i've read, its mostly been a few years ago and recent feedback seems to be better.. at least what i've read on RFD.

Their website is showing $69.99 for the 150 Cable and Activation Fee: $ 99.95
Even with the promo code "CAN100", it only knocks $10 off per month so $60. Is $50 some hidden special offer?

I'm thinking about giving Cannet a try as well. I have Fibe TV and in the past, you had to get internet from Bell as well. But it doesn't look like that is the case anymore. Would only save $10 month due to my current discount, but the extra speed would be useful for my Android box.

CRTC says no provider is allowed to throttle.

And even Cannet says they'll pay out $100 if you have proof that you are being throttled. Guess they can sue rogers if anything is proven anyways.

I did read on other forums, where its not throttling, but for certain customers, you get lumped into a low priority group during peak hours but you can ask to get "whitelisted" so that you area always in the high priority group. But like I said, I was only getting 25 down with Bell anyways, so anything above that during the few peak hours I'm fine with. But last night, I ran tests at 8pm and 9pm, still getting full speed. We'll see in a month when they see some of my usage patterns?

Why would speed be an issue unless you are streaming 4k content. I couldn't stream 4k at all when I was with TS on the 100 account and night time throttleing was fucking insane.

I get freezing when watching my Android box in the evenings. Everything is ok during the day though. Hoping that having a bigger connection would alleviate the issue. Regardless, I'm paying more for my Fibe25 than the 75+ MB services from the other providers.

its probably the limitation of your w/l card at that point.. hard wire and test again.

THIS!

I'll never understand it. How hard is it to set up alerts for when new retention plan drops...With websites like RFD it makes it a no brainer to get a good deal on any plan to fit your needs.

Who pays for activation, modem rental or purchases a modem anymore. I haven't done that in 15+ years.

I've never been a Rogers customer, nor bell.

Started with Acanac dsl, moved to start.ca, basic 15/1 plan, never needed more.

Home phone is VoIP.ms, put $25 on my account over a year ago, havnt used it up.

No cable just OTA, Netflix and YouTube

Cable is nice and I enjoy using it when going to
Others who have It, but not a necessity for us

Re: Rogers...rate incraese?

I ended up staying with Rogers, was all set to do the move to Bell gigabit but Rogers called the day before and finally offered a better deal to match bell.

Getting 239/33 for my desktop on speedtest.net and 416/32 on new Lenovo Yoga thinkpad, both hard wired.

On Rogers speedtest getting 292/32 and 572/32 respectively.

Not too concerned about the speed but will upgrade the nic card on the desktop as the machine is old as dirt. Main focus was getting a cheaper rate for overall package than what i was paying before.

Do you have a hard wire Ethernet connection to another area in the house to add a second ap? If you add another wifi repeater you will get better coverage but your speed with be halved so it's best to add another ap

No hardwired ethenet port upstairs would just be wifi using the Asus. Is it worthwhile to do or just stick with the one downstairs or have both downstairs and pick between each routers 2.4 and 5 signal using different ssid?

The new Rogers modem/router is actually pretty good if you can get it somewhere central in your house. For the moment I have mine turned off because I upgraded to a Asus 3100 from the 56U.

The 56U couldn't keep up hardwired with Gigabit speeds, nevermind wireless.

So I called Bell retention, and I ended up reducing my combined TV/internet bill by $25/month and they gave me 50MB internet as well. Didn't notice any freezing on my Android box so far, so the increased speed might have helped. Will try it out for a while and see how it goes. I didn't sign a contract, so I can switch anytime if need be.

i call robbers customer retentions every 2yrs on the dot (i saved that shit in my phone....date/number/my plan lol) and basically say "ok i'm done contract and will move to bell, please setup a new plan for 1-2 yrs for me"....they do so, and i'm set again for 2yrs \:\) - they have been very reliable tbh and speed quite decent (above my package of 100gbs/unltd usage), so can't complain for the price.

i do the same call for our cell phone contracts and cable (but cable i just stick with base+1 bonus channel), as i have a good android box.

yea, 50 should be more than enough. Its when you start running multiple streams, then you'll need more.
