I'd buy used though probably not too much with one with like 60k on it.

Drive in traffic, listen to podcasts, get good mileage and it actually makes it down my parking ramp for work - why not?

yeah those will prob be fine right up until very early Dec (if you want to risk it). i had the old versions of those on my s2k and sti and they we're safe enough. wouldn't want them in REAL snow though.

The old version of the RE71R were Re71s, and they were made in 1980s for the 959.
Are you sure you had them on the s2k? XD

I actually drove in the rain this AM (it was 3 degrees). Conti DW fine here as well.

I put almost 50k on my 2011 and had zero issues with it. 3 of my coworkers have newer model Elantras and none of them have any probs either. My Veloster was just as solid too.

That being said, I prob wouldn't buy another. I found it kinda tight inside for my size and the torsion beam rear suspension was pretty rough.

Re: When are you putting your winters on

sometimes the problem is that you only see the bad cases on the internet, and in some cases, you see the same case posted on multiple sites, and then people start thinking its an "issue".

There were a couple of FRSs in the US w/ motor issues at 30-40k miles, but after looking into it, it was the same couple cars being reported on different sites.

Unless hyundai has openly come out and said there is an issue, I'd imagine the chances are low, but of course, you only hear the vocal minority who have had issues.

Re: When are you putting your winters on

FWIW, all Porsche did was pay out the original owners who still had the car.
There are improved IMS bearings and such which you can throw on the car. If you are really concerned, you can always factor that into cost. IIRC it's around 3k to do. That said, something like a 2nd gen Cayman doesn't have IMS, so that's a viable option if you like those. They aren't expensive.

How much did the owners get back? $100 lmfao, think that's how much it actually was in the end. So yeah how's that for owning up to it?

Class action lawsuits only favour the blood sucking lawyers.

Re: When are you putting your winters on

^that's another topic entirely though. That's a flaw in how the legal system deals with this. Not anything to do with IMS.

I don't see BMW doing anything about rod bearings since the E46 days XD XD
Oh wait, was there a TSB on rod bearings for the early E46s at least?

GNSP
http://www.blogto.com/city/2016/11/winter_weather_will_engulf_toronto_within_two_weeks/

By the middle of the month, it'll seem a lot more like winter. That shouldn't come as a surprise, of course, but given that it's 15 degrees out right now, it might be a shock to the system.

"While we expect temperatures to drop during November, there are signs that the decline will be more profound than usual for parts of the Prairies, Ontario and Quebec. During mid to late November, we expect a pattern change which will bring several rounds of below seasonal temperatures to this region," reports the Weather Network.

According to the Weather Network, temperatures will start to plunge some time between November 10 and 17.

And when it gets colder, we might be in for some snowy weather because, "When arctic air does arrive, the contrast in temperature between the lakes and the air crossing the lakes will be greater than what we typically see, and this will help to enhance the threat for substantial lake effect snow squalls in the traditional snow belt areas."
