Exhaust manifold replacement.

I think it needs to be replaced.
There's a crack underneath the Cylinder 1 bank and in the middle somewhere. It formed a white residue around it. The check Engine light is on again with the code "Cylinder 1 misfire". I've replaced Plugs and wires.

With a new Denso O2 Sensor, the parts are $250 CDN shipped.
But the fun will begin once I start trying to get the rust pipes off.

Should I do it, or try some Crack fix stuff from Crappy tire?

Ya, I need a new car.

Re: Exhaust manifold replacement.

isn't that a common problem on EL's? I remember my brother's EL back in the day had the same problem. we tried that crack fix shit and it didn't do anything. just buy a cheap aftermarket header and call it a day, and yes that's a DIY job, re-use your new O2 and your good to go.

Re: Exhaust manifold replacement.

I've replaced my O2, back in how many years ago, long story short, I am 99% sure it was cross threaded. It had consumed my weekend to replace it.

I doubt I can reuse that one.
It's only $40 CDN shipped anyway.

That reminds me, I still have a brand new secondary O2 sensor in my drawer.

Can anyone confirm if this is the correct one for my car?
How they listed kinda alarms me. 92-98? Why not 92-00?
Only $169 CDN shipped from Amazon.

Called Acura, 18100-P2J-000 is the part number, so I think I am safe.
They want $500 something.

I believe it's because the 99-00 had the Y8 engine if I'm not mistaken. The cracking manifold is a very common issue with them. There is also a good possibility that the crack helped burn out the heater circuit in the O2 so you'll probably have to replace it anyway.

Re: Exhaust manifold replacement.

LOL same thing happened to my 94 coupe. It split right under the o2 sensor and cracked all the way down to where it meets the cat. I look on JDMR for someone parting out - picked one up for $30 with the o2 sensor.

Figure out your engine code and start searching with that.

Edit: the replacement I bought came with the o2 sensor as well as the cat so the swap wasn't too bad...

Re: Exhaust manifold replacement.

I commend OP for actually driving the car into the ground, if it's still in decent shape and he is squeezing every last bit of value then all the power to him.

I am with zc911, see if you can get the header, I'd also suggest cat/mid pipe (assuming yours are rotted) from a place like total Japanese domestic motor (55 Midwest rd in scarb). I don't know about the header and o2 being $80, last I was in this bind they were charging more, but it shouldn't be more than a couple of hundred all said and done.

Re: Exhaust manifold replacement.

it's been a while since I had to buy anything from those guys. But now that it think about it you are right, the $80 was downpipe piece with O2 only. not a full header lol

Re: Exhaust manifold replacement.

Cheaper the better, I assume I still need to purchase gaskets and possible new bolts getting used from JDM places...?

Just want to fix it up decent, so it's easy to sell. Though what if I keep it till next year...used header might have the same issue sooner or later.
I've been looking to get a new ride for last 4 years. lol
I think the time is coming soon though.

What do you think it's worth now?
About 280k, 1998

I need to put the stock hood back on.
Not sure about my headlights. I don't have replacement housings. Don't really give it away if the buyer doesn't care about it.

Nice.
I just need to get the O2 sensor top of those eh?

JDM quote

Exhaust $50
Down pipe $40
O2 $25 each

Great pricing, ya who knows how long they'd last.
Plus, I assume I still have to purchase gaskets.
