$85 for a service call?

Is this pretty much standard for appliance service calls?
Our Samsung dishwasher ($700-800?) broke in 1.5 years. It's out of warranty now, so they just gave me a number to call.

$85 to take a look then parts & labour.

Re: $85 for a service call?

I have a code.
Low water level.
I tried whatever Internet told me to do. ( pushing the float manually incase it's stuck)
Didn't work.

Next steps are related to the sensors and voltage.

I meant I had an explanation written up trying to justify the cost, not help him fix the problem.

I wasn't replying to your post even though I might have used your reference in my post \:\)

I agree with you on justifying the cost though, we see it all the time. The same people that can't justify the cost and think they can setup and wire a custom home theatre are the same ones that have a hard time connecting a a HTIB

Re: $85 for a service call?

Is $85 really a big deal for you family anyways? Doesn't your mom have speakers that cost like $25k or something ridiculous?

Re: $85 for a service call?

Ya if it's a rip-off.
The guy knew the problem before stepping into the house.
Service call charge is a total BS.
I told the code on the phone and it's a common problem.
They just send a guy to collect $85+tax then give out the quote they could do it on the phone.

Anyway, it's gonna cost $275 and the guy said he'd see us often with the Samsung dishwasher.
This washer doesn't clean well, had the detergent tab left in the slot a couple of times after the wash, and will break every few years according to the repair man.

Look at all the wonderful reviews.

The repair guy said Samsung uses cheap Chinese/Mexican labours overseas for their internals and they will break all the time.
But LG is actually built in Korea and will last. Then he pointed to the washing machine. We looked at it and it was indeed built in Korea.

Re: $85 for a service call?

That's about standard, I think.

I had a plumber in - cost me $90. Then he quoted me $740 for a new tap for the kitchen.

I said fuck that, if I can install a clutch, I can install a tap, so I bought a Moen for $90, installed it myself.

Looks back at post. Holy crap, I'm channelling Risky Sandpaper!

Re: $85 for a service call?

Problem fixed.

I bitched at Samsung again and they decided to send the part.
Only catch is that it has to be installed by the authorized service centre.
They quoted $200 for labour.
For a 30min simple assembly swap that you can see on the side?
Fuck you Samsung.

If anyone wants this Samsung. Make an offer. It needs a $75 part.
Paid $800 ish 1.5 yrs ago.

Re: $85 for a service call?

So you wouldn't fix the old one, but spent $1300 on a new one?

Re: $85 for a service call?

Dishwashers are super easy to fix. Just put a new pump on mine. Took me about 30 minutes.
