I have a speaker addiction

I can't fight the urge, I love buying cheap older speakers and being thrilled by their sound vs spending large amounts of $$ and not being as thrilled.

Picked up a pair of Technics SB-T10 for $30. Technics? Yeah I thought so to when I bought them, could be hit or miss, but damn these are some nice little guys. Very clear, detailed and smooth. Not allot of low end but mid/highs are very nice.

Could only find this info on them and even then I have no clue.

did you know that speaker technology has drastically changed in the last 10 yrs. only the most expensive speakers produce the best sound. you arent part of the cool club.

not much of a collection now since i end up getting rid of stuff after awhile because i need the space and i collect a alot of other crap

only have

athena as-b1 x 4
athena as-c1 x 1 for my soon to be ht in basement

2 x tannoy arden

2 x technics sb-t10

2 x advent the baby II

couple in ceiling speakers for background listening

2 x acoustic research ar3a i repaired about 10 years ago

2 x pro audio BFM Omnitop 12 i DIY last year along with various subs

1 x mission 700 i found in a parking lot

2 x Boston acoustics a40 which is in pieces waiting for refoam and new tweeter

I have had more come and go over the years but they are all inexpensive ones I buy on a whim and listen to for awhile.

Most expensive ones I have now are the Tannoys but I need to get rid of them they are too big

I tried everywhere to find that tweeter. KEF finally said they'd help me then they fell off the map.

The Image T5's were on my radar as well. How do you like them?

I'm a huge Paradigm fan, but when your friend works at PSB they have a significant price advantage.

Why limit yourself to studios, they're mid-fi at best.

/me owns studio 100s wishes he had a pair of magico q7

so far so good...- had trouble tuning it to the sub...

these are my first set of speakers..listened to a few and really like these ones...didnt like the klipsh set at the same price point (i think its that horn tweeter or the the setup/setting were off)

depth is there which is what i wanted.

Did you do the sub crawl?

Are you running any dsp? Mini dsp with room eq wizard would do wonders

Give me a good price on your Studios, I'll sell my monitors to Flexin5, and you can pick up the magico Q7 or signatures :p

Re: I have a speaker addiction

lol q7's and signatures aren't even in the same league.

I love paradigm but there are many speakers I would choose before the signatures.

I'd love to sell my speakers but my first priority is dumping my current DAC for something else.

How they ever come to the conclusion on a price like that is beyond me.

I bet they sound the same as a set for $1000

Define high dollar. I love doing blind comparisons and did it with my own speakers before I bought them, and no they were not my first choice, but my first choice would have required other components as well. Like everything else, you get what you pay for, to a point.

The only reason I even mention the magico q7's is because I love the engineering that went into the chassis, it's pretty awesome. Though if I did win a few million dollars I would not hesitate to purchase the q7's or the focal grande utopias and the equipment required to run them.

going past a couple grand for a pair of speakers strictly dedicated for 2ch listening is getting pretty silly IMO but who am I to judge, just IMO.

The thing I dont get is you never really see true blind a/b tests performed on these higher dollar speakers or interconnects or speaker wires that people rave about, so how are you supposed to believe that they really are doing anything and that its not just in your head.
