I know Vas did rust proof his car last year. I am thinking to get mine done. Beside Krown, are there any shop worth to go? How much should I expect to pay with SPC Card? |
i bought a truck this summer and had a "chemical" undercoat done on it. Was a bit pricey but only has to be done once and not yearly or biyearly like regular oil sprays. we'll see in a few years i guess. edit - if you use a spc card the rust proofer will probably have to pay you with how much you're going to save (120%-130% I would imagine). |

BMW rustproofing good for 11 years. I'm not going to have the car in 11 years. |

i just did krown a couple weeks ago. its close to my house and relatively hassle free so thats why I go to krown. |

(i thought you were thinking of getting rid of it for something newer?). with all the crap that's already built up over time; or little nooks and crannies that have collector some moisture - not sure if putting rust proof over it would make it worse (trapping moisture). |

Didn't do it last year on the bimmer...not doing this year either. Factory rust proofing is good enough. It's the stone chips you have to look out for. |

^^The rust perforation warranty is 11 years, so lets say it won't rust for at least 8 - 9 years. They have a zinc coating they put down before the paint. |

the chemical one sounds interesting. but otherwise krown is still one of your best bets for the money. or this Reg guy vas speaks of seems decent. rustcheck isn't too bad either. don't do anything with wax, because that traps the moisture underneath...bad. bmw has a pretty cool pre-paint process and it seems to be excellent. tho lasting 11 years, i think that more depends on customer usage/care and where they live in the country. i've seen some pics from cars and it's like wwttff when you see how bad they are at not even 6-8 years. though a lot of companies use a bath 'dip' on the metal before primer hits the car...ie. honda has e-coat at the factory, i forget the name toyota uses, but basically all the same shit (too bad honda paint is crap lol). dealer rustproof is a ripoff. given the salt in ONT. i'd say a new car doesnt need rustproofing right away, but it can't hurt after awhile to start doing (though many ppl dont keep cars as long anymore). |
Comes with it from the factory. No need. |

I prefer chemical over oil mainly for longevity and mess. I hate oil spray dripping everywhere. Most "chemical" rustproofs are either wax or a tar based system. They last a lot longer than oil based systems, however they will trap anything underneath as well. If the car is brand new, never driven in winter then I'd do a one of the tar based systems. Also, if the oil sprays aren't done properly then any rubber piece it touches will eventually have to be replaced due to swelling. |
I did Krown Lakeshore ala Igor for $95 cash for a few years ... After Vas' lengthy review of Reg's, I'm on my second year of Reg's ... ($125 cash.) I showed them my hidden rust on the A pillar door frame, and owner said he can't touch it as the oil will eat the rubber. He said Rust Check that shit ... last year he put vaseline on it ... |

I am doing a ton of work to the m3 this year and stripping the underneath to replace ball joints/bushings. Tar would be awesome since the underbody is clean. |

I go to Krown @ Bullock dr near Markville. Bunch of good guys there. Rust proofed + parked car in the garage to hibernate over the winter. For people who love old shit, rust proof it! From reading this thread, new cars are not worthy of rust proofing. Thus, the modern snobby bmw owner does not care. /retrogrouch |

(i thought you were thinking of getting rid of it for something newer?). with all the crap that's already built up over time; or little nooks and crannies that have collector some moisture - not sure if putting rust proof over it would make it worse (trapping moisture). That's not how it works. Oil displaces moisture. This means that it's a good idea to rustproof an old car too. It's also really important to clean the car properly as well. Chemical treatments will never be as effective as oilspray, but they don't need to be done as often, which many people prefer. I hate rust, so I use the most effective process possible, which is oil. I prefer Krown. No need for me to use it now though, that I live in the arid prairie. For those of you who think that your factory rustproofing is effective enough, or think that chemical sprays are effective, think about the effect on the nuts and bolts under the car. If you do your own wrenching, you will be so glad that you used oil. If you don't, whoever works on your car will curse you. Have fun with frozen and snapped bolts. I've never had that trouble, and for that reason alone I would recommend Krown, aside from the fact that I have a 20-year-old car without rust. |
This guy has it right. Working on a regularly rust proofed car, the bolts and nuts come off like butta! Nothing like working on a 40 year old car without needing a torch! But I understand guys with new cars not wanting to do it. You dont want to keep an isolated, drive by wire/no throttle response car alive forever /retrogrouch |

Just got back from Krown Lakeshore Igor and his guys did an awesome job. They def live up to their reputation Took ~30 mins and included a car wash Proper job, too. Inside all four doors, inside the rockers, trunk seam, underside of hood, shock towers, rad support etc Paid 100 bucks tax in Do it. |

I wonder what kind of review we'd get if you guys actually went to Reg's Anyway... |

^^ haha i bet it would probably sound the exact same both krown and reg's, and to some extent rust check all have a very solid reputaton |
I won't argue, but you should do your research. If it's for a DD then go anywhere. For a car you care about, the trip is worth to Reg's...even Euphoric made his way down to scarberia just for that rustproofing. |

btw how did that whole accounting project go that we chatted about? |

yeah it was for my dd. i'll try reg's fo sho the next time i do it. and damn haha that was a while ago but it went well! i think i got like an 85 on it overall school is good meng, things are going pretty well i have an interview on tues for my second co-op just had a chat with the presidents of vw audi and porsche thats john white (vw), joe lawrence (porsche), and wolfgang hoffman (audi) /hijack |

Benz and the RSX is getting put away for the winter. |

^^ i think there's like 8 plugs in the car now hahaha but that allows for the stuff to get inside the fenders, inside the rockers and inside the doors rust starts from the inside out so you want the spray to go where you cant normally see at first i cringed a bit at the thought of drilling holes but whatever, i got over it |
Fuck that drilling holes nonsense. Why are you guys even bothering? Are you really driving in the winter and holding onto the car past 7 years from new? |

^ Are you fucking trolling? I plan to keep the 335d till it dies. Sorry not everyone is balling here with $200k jobs. |

^^ No trolling, have you ever kept a winter driven car longer than 7 years, and did it have rust? I said the same thing about keeping the E46 M3, and it was gone in 7 years with no rust. Life is gonna change by then |

Once I've got some free time I have to go to BMW Toronto and see about opening a case regarding my car. It's pretty bad, after this winter in the heated garage I'm terrified. Mike - Sean just left for 3 yrs in Singapore this past weekend. Private schools for the kids, BIG rental budget, an A4 ($250k over there), business class trips to Canada once a year. Someone at Audi sure loves him. |
Don't plan on spraying it. I have read up on it and the general concensus is there's no point in spraying since BMW did a rust proofing spray already from the factory. My car leaked for a good 6 months in the door jams with this rust proofing shit coming out. Wes your car starting to rust? I will probably start spraying next year since my car has slowed down leaking now...LOL |
My doors are bad. Mainly the drivers door. There's orange you can see from 10' away crawling up the outer skin if I don't wash/polish it off. Soon the bottom will be missing. It's filthy but I'll take pictures when I go out. |
LOL so your car is right around the 7 yr mark. According to Choco it's time for a new car buddy!!! Please take pics. |

Aug 2005 in service date. Time to be retired! It's too bad that when I drive pretty much anything else, even brand new, I enjoy how tight it feels getting back into my own car. I've looked at replacing it but there wasn't anything I liked more. |

I really like my E90...but whenever I drive my brothers E36 M3 I realize how fucking isolated new cars are. '90s cars are far more enjoyable to drive IMO. |

my civic is a 2005. i just bought it this spring. it had never been undercoated before and it is still VERY clean underneath. i dont imagine that would continue for much longer without getting it coated. for 100 bucks it's good peace of mind and i plan to keep it for awhile /99% |

oh I'm sure. And in the late 90's it was the late 80's cars. I've only driven newer cars though, I don't see selling my car for an older DD. |

Is there a chance that there is more to the history of the car than you were lead to believe (ie accident, body work etc) that could explain the rust? |

I have my GTI for 9+ years, not because I love my car and want to drive it to the ground. It is because I don't make $200K job to afford new car every 4-5 years |

Yeah I got it used, but it was CPO from the dealer, and it's on both sides of the car, so I doubt it's anything accident related. |
Fuck all you assholes with this 200k shit, I didn't take the contract gig, so I'm at my old place with a nice raise. Newer BMWs come with factory undercoating and a zinc coating, thats how they can offer an 11 year rust perforation warranty. If you can drive one, you can certainly afford to replace it within 11 years. If you were driving some jap crap, then yeah, I sold my 97 subaru with just because it started rusting, it ran perfectly fine. Sold our 2005 before any rust started, because we know 7 years with Japanese cars is the limit. My 2002 M3 had no rust in 2010 when I sold it. As for E36s being more rewarding to drive, my neighbour has an 2002. You want road feel you got it. Hell, even an E30 M3 is more rewarding to drive, that doesn't mean I want to own one to DD. The E46 was the best balance of modern without all this computer isolation. E36 is just plain old now Oh, and E90 looks dated as shit now that the F30 is out They just didn't age well. Wes, WTF is up with that rust, you drive that shit through salt water or something? |
F30 aside from the ugly snout is not a huge leap from the E90 LCI. Don't know what the fuck you are smoking but pass some over! Once I saw the camo shots of the F30 and saw the headlights I was sold on the E90 LCI...LOL Wes, that's fucked. Looks like the weld seams are fucked...need new door skins at that rate. |
My car has had a regular life, with me. That rust was starting when I bought the car but didn't know it, a friend found it, so it's been there since it was 3 yrs old. I hate the F30 iDrive screen, and LOVE it in the E90, and since I spend the time inside, not outside that matters. Now, if I buy an F30 M3 next you can all call me a hypocrite, that's ok with me. |
^^ I love the F30 screen, Just this weekend I was in a buddy's F10, the screen makes the E series tech look stone age. |
Dude are you talking out of ur ass or what? Have you seen the cic screen and software yet? It looks exactly the same as the F30 loaner I had. The pre-lci does look like its from the stone age though lol. I believe Wes is talking about the placement of the screen... It looks like an after thought on the F30. However the 2013 is suppose to have a new screen and idrive. Haven't seen it yet but I'm sure that will be much better than the 2012 which is the same as the lci E90. |
^^ I'm talking about the 2013 F10 screen. Freaking beautiful. As for placement on the E series, the double hump looks like an afterthought, and really screws up the dash. |
Oh ok makes sense. Ya the 2013 is a huge leap. Man ur fucked. The double hump completes the dash. Without it you know there's something missing. F30 is an after thought and looks cheap. The same design in the F10 works because it's a larger dash. |
Love me some F30 for a daily Can't afford it though. Maybe when they drop in price in a few years. |

I used to like E46 M3's...still kinda do, but really they do nothing for me. They are the new ricer mobile, you can get one for like 13k locally. E36 is a damn fine car. I love the e36's with 330 fender mods, fuck wide body, just flared out fenders and they look tits. There are the race version and the blended one. You can stuff a 275 tire like a BAUCE. |
I'm all for fender flares but fuck unless they are molded in they are hideous. |
Yea riveted ones are for track cars, the molded ones are out there. There is a guy with an LS swap running 285 squared IIRC with the properly done fenders. Looks legit, can't find the pics though. |

I didn't look under the car. But my passenger side door is rusted from the inside on the A-pillar, rust on the driver side fender, hatch. It's a 11 years old car, so I expected. ^^ What? Are you serious? Look how dated the E90 is dude. Yes, the E46 M3 is the new civic, but thats nothing that the E36 didn't go through when it got cheap. Why put tacky fender flares on the E36 when the E46 comes with it stock. I ran 285 rubber for track/autocross with no fender modifications. People are running 305/315 with some fender rolling. |

Fender mod is optional, wtf are you comparing? You aren't making sense right now. How is the e90 dated? Maybe you are getting that idea because they are common as hell and basically look like a corolla...they've aged just fine. The LCI ones especially don't look dated at all. If you think the e90 is dated then I am sure you must definitely be convinced your x5 also aged horribly because it's the same sh!t. |
^LMAO Dude E90 dated? LCI has the same L shaped designed tail lights as the current generation. Side profile looks like the same shit, only the headlight is radically different. Pre-lci does look a bit dated with the old headlights and the butterfly tails...I especially hate the grill and I have never liked the E90 till the LCI came out. |
X5 will look dated as fuck when the new model is out. None of these cars are aging well, the shapes were just too wierd, nothing gracefull. And yes, the E9X is as common as the Corolla. Where are you getting the idea that the tail lights look the same? The new 3 tail lights make the car look like a mini 5 series. The L shaped tail lights are a BMW trademark, so they haven't gone to another shape, but the E90 tails aren't even close to the F30 tails. |

Either way, the F30 is goregous, and yes it's a mini 5 series. Still don't see how the e90 looks aged. |

nah the wife has a E46 but swapping that for a (maybe) audi Q3 and just a tree series (modded) for myself. time to upgrade the cars soon, just shopping around right now. and euphoric dat coral monies has been good lately. just turned a 2K shipment into a $8.5k. basically, i was paying anywhere between $80-$120 per colony that i cut up (makes about 20-30 small peices) but i shipped in 150 colonies from singapore for $2K and change including shipping and all that shit (works out to about $14/colony) and wholesale. entire shipment was gone within a week, got 6.5k cash in mah pocket. wife thought i was dealing meth. i've been looking for a used evo 10MR but the only nice one for sale is being sold the the collection or i could not be a jackass and keep putting that money down on the mortgage. |

If you register your business, you need to keep records of your transactions and then pay taxes at the end of the year if you make money. If you lease or finance a car under the company name, it simply comes out of your taxable income at the end of the year. So let's say your current business earns you $50k. Take away your expenses from that - so say $1k/mth for the car lease, $500/mth for gas, $500/mth in misc expenses for the business, your net at the end of the year is $36k. So now you have to pay taxes on the $36k. Wanna make shit more complicated? Draw a salary from your business. Heck, take the full $36k that's left as salary. All of a sudden, your business now has no taxes to pay, but now you've got an additional $36k of personal income that you have to pay taxes for at your current tax bracket (if not higher). No matter how you look at it, if you have the option to keep a business "cash," do it. There's all types of other shit too when it comes to owning your own business - you pay all the CPP/EI, accounting fees etc. Write this down: it doesn't make sense. |

^ what he said. Titty Keep it cash dat coral money doe fuck...link dat |
Holy fuck cash it is lol ill just keep it all under my mattress. Thanks for the schooling. And risky it's not all sunshine & farts, I gotta maintain two tanks, I do even more driving now so I'm running the rsx into the ground, If I buy a new car it'll look like an old one real quick. Money is good and about to get better i hope, the main importer for coral into Canada just stopped importing, wut dat demand do. But up to what point do you keep a business cash before you get in shit? Do I keep friggin 40k in cash laying around? Lol |

Lol I'm sure Risky may know better than I but as far as I understand it, you would want to register a business to protect yourself (your assets) in case you're sued for some reason. If your business is registered, a customer would only be able to go after the assets of the business, not you personally. As for getting in shit, I don't really see how you could be found out. If you're questioned about it, worst case scenario, it's just your hobby, no? |

Up to what point do you keep a business cash? This will depend on who you ask, the right answer is you don't keep a business cash. Anyway if you want more advice pm, I am not going to post shit here on how to run your business. It depends on far too many things, and you need to spill the details. What's the point of having csi on read that. |

Should I go to Krown on Lakeshore or Reg's? Krown quoted me $124.95 |

For the EL, it's $95 cash @ Krown Lakeshore, or $125 cash @ Reg's... Reg's has full dripless, or dripless (i.e. thicker oil) at bottom, and thinner for the rest. In certain circumstances (cue Risky) Reg's says you can do it every other year. At Krown, I also pick up one of their T-32 (or whatever) can of penetration/rust/protection oil ... ($10). I've started going to Reg's after RB's assessment for the past 2-3 years... Originally Posted By: iamfob Should I go to Krown on Lakeshore or Reg's? Krown quoted me $124.95 |
