jdm b16 or b18c motor?

sup yall, i own a 00 civic si and i just sold my motor for 1800 with 80,000 miles on it to a friend of mine who has a 94 hatchback. I work at a shop in schaumburg and i'm gettin a deal on a jdm b16 sir motor with for 2500. The thing is i've been saving a lot of money because i wanted to drop a teggy type r motor into my car. So i just want opinions on what you think the better deal is....i found a type r motor for prices around 4 g's.....but i dunno...just some feedback from Si drivers like yourself would be helpful...what would u do?

There is a such thing. I will try to remember the exacts for the JDM motors as best as I can.

B-16A1 - First gen JDM B-16A, found with pre '92 cable transmissions in the CRX SiR, also found in the post '92 hydro tranny in the JDM Civic SiR's.

B-16A2 - US OBD2 B-16A, found in the '96-'97 Delsol Vtec, and the '99-'00 Civic Si

B-16A3 - US OBD1 B-16A, found in the '94-'95 Delsol Vtec

B-16A4 - I believe is the JDM/Canadian OBD2 B-16A

B-16A5 - I believe is the JDM 170hp OBD1 version of the B-16A

BTW, why in the hell would you sell your stock B-16A in favor for another B-16A?

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

when i first got my si i raped the engine and i'm stacking close to 100k miles on it, i don't want to get a new car just yet so i wanted to do an engine swap. I'll probrably just go with the b16 because it's cheap

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

If you but anything B16A in your car there is no difference and you wasted a lot of time. You may get a bit more compression and possibly an LSD.

B18C is what Honda should have put in that car from teh floor. But than again, no one would buy an Integra.

Get a B18C or B18C1 if your tight on cash.

Why you took the entire B16A out of your car, and sold it for $1800 I have no idea...

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

ok dude...ill try to do this patiently...

go to your car...open the hood...is there a motor there? if not...then the rest is pointless....

if so....can you see the tin shroud (heat shield) for the exhaust manifold between the radiator and the engine?

if so....look to it's immediate LEFT and go DOWN about eight inches. there will be a flat spot with lots of numbers on it..THAT is how you tell what your engine is...it should read

B16A2 and then several numbers under it...i think seven
5349329 (that's just an example, dont take that as gospel) and then
HM <--- that means honda motors...its cast into the block below the flat spot

then even further left there should be a green strip of metal that has been rivited to the TRANSMISSION that has your VIN number on it. compare those numbers with the numbers in the lower portion of your drivers side windshield to see if your motor has been swapped if the B16A2 is not there

read it all, do all the steps, THEN ask more questions

Dave

ok here we go ready ? b16a1 4300461 Hm vin numbers on tranny and car do match and pulled a number off the tranny that reads s4c-1036995 maybe a stamp error ? with my luck it just prob a stamp error and really is a b16a2 but i have no way to know for sure thanks for the tip dave

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

wow, that IS weird.. B16A1 is the designation for the older B16s (most came with the cable trans I think).. the S4C is the correct trans for the 99-00 Si though.

have you ever run a carfax on your car? and did you buy it brand new?

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

the b16a1 is alsoknown as the 1st gen b16. it came in the integra xsi and rsi and came in an auto version. it is a jdm motor that should have a 1 milion series stamped on it or if its from an 92 xsi or rsi, it should have a 1.2 million series stamp on it. not a 4 million series. the jdm 1st gen b16s "b16a1s" came in a cable tranny. not a hydro.

how about you post a picture? that would be more easy.

if you own a 99-00 civic si coupe, then, your original engine is stamped b16a2 with a 4 million series stamp on an s4c transmission.

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

I wonder if the 4 million series B16A is from the 92-93 obd1 cable trans integra xsi. I'll have to check my friends car, he has one of those.

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

im also wondering if the crx sir jdm b16a sir 1 came in a 4 million stamp? even if it did, the "b16a1" were still jdm motors. jdm motors do not have a number degsination at the end of there stamp description. if there is a b16a1 stamped on your motor, then, what b16 comes with a b16a1 stamped on it? if is a 1st gen blok, then, maybe the previous owners converted the block to obd2 and converted the tranny from cable to hydro?

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

this thread got too wild but i appreciate the opinions.....for anyone who wants to know why i'm selling i already told you that the engine is at 100k on it. I have a friend who can get jdm motors for cheap and if i can get a good deal on a different motor with less mileage (and better tranny) then why not? My boy at the shop tells me ls/vtec is shit so i'm gonna be a little adventurous and do a b20 vtec. I got the dough so i'm not trippin i'll let you guys know how my project will be goin in club si....peace!

Re: jdm b16 or b18c motor?

it is possible the guy blew the motor & bought an older b16a1 however he didn't replace the tranny so it still has the original tranny, but a different block. check the ecu, what the code on it out of curriosity?

or it could be a fake vin tag on the tranny. could be a stolen motor & then they make a fake vin tag to match ur cars vin.

It's already been meantioned, but the transmission can still be the stock Si mated to a JDM B-16A swap.

assuming all parts are original.

p2t on ecu.

s4c on tranny.

b16a2 on shortblock with a 4 million series stamp.

in front of the head there should be a 4 circles with numbers on them with a bar going through. the first of these numbers should read 99 or 00.

how bout you just posting a pix of your block. i would like to see for the first time, a block that says b16a1?????????????????????????
