New Build (AIR, FullRace, DART, etc.) *DYNO added*

The new turbo build is nearing completion. Motor is built, all the misc. parts are installed on the car. Just waiting for the pipes to be made and the tune. It's been almost 2 years since I've driven my car, notice the wasp nest under the radiator support. So I am dying to get back in it. Check out my setup and let me know your thoughts on it. I'm hoping for a strong 500-550whp out of this setup. I'm probably shooting low, but I don't wanna push it. Dyno plots will be posted soon. Jack @ p1auto is doing the work for me.

pinch 3 inch charge piping if you can.

whats the hotside AR on the turbo? you have the cold side listed, but the .70's standard...the hot side ar is what makes the difference.

looks like with a bigger turbo, injectors, and fuel pump the rest of the set up could support an assload of power!

I'm sorry, I forgot the compressor A/R. It's a 0.82 A/R. I think it'll perform what I'm looking for.

The Intake Mani is a full Carbon Fiber Construction with machined aluminum flanges. Advanced Induction Research (A.I.R.) made this. Very well crafted piece, very very light. I haven't seen any Dynos using this manifold and this turbo, so I'm curious as to see what it will produce. More info on this mani can be found here : http://www.advancedinductionresearch.com/fd1201-20.htm

Haha. No money tree around here. It's just one of the joys of having to be without a car for two years to save that kind of money. When the car is dyno'd, the plots will be posted for comparison. Hopefully I can find a build that is extremely similiar to mine for close comparison. Their plot on the site is very similiar, but would like to find one with a GT35R with the same specs.

Re: New Build (AIR, FullRace, DART, etc.)

just a guess. from the pic, it looks like the IM is designed for high velocity? the runners narrows toward the flange and it actually tucks inside it. vs the victor x which have large runners that stay close to the same diameter for more volume. still...i don't know if can save 2250 for just an IM. post dyno plots asap!

I don't know how to say this nicely, so I'll just spit it out..

You spent close to what.....~10k for....

You can do that with a stock motor...lol....

548whp b16a2 or @ the very least, just pistons/rods would hit that no problem w/the correct turbo & supporting mods.

Another case of more $$ than brains...

Re: New Build (AIR, FullRace, DART, etc.)

Yes, I could've made the same power with less money. = True
His setup as reliable or has close to the same HP potential. = Most unlikely

I do have alot of money tied up into this project. But once again, this was not an overnight build. 500-550 whp is a low goal I know. Being that this is my 3rd turbo setup for this car, I want it to be my last. 1st was the Greddy 18G KIT. Then, it was a custom SC61 setup. And now this. Everytime I wanted more, and more power. And couldn't get within that range safely because of my limited motor. Now I do understand that every motor has limits, but I think this build will finally satisfy me. It took a while to save for everything I have... so I don't think the "more money than brains" quote really applies...

Fair enough, that was a little harsh. I wasn't trying to be prickish, however it may have came across that way.

I just work really hard for what I have, and maybe sometimes get a little peeved when I see someone is able to just "throw money" around....and not really understand what they have.

For that I apologize.

Best of luck w/the setup.

All that coin and still using the stock underdrive pully? were is the fluidamper ......NASTY AZZ HELL. with the mods you have in and out on that setup, 600WHP should not be a problem, other than that, around the area that snail tends to run out of breath,(600-675), Later getting a bigger turbo will let you see those 700's that motor was built for...

Still nice work. I too know what it is like to wait. The build I am on now took me over 3yrs of waiting/building, and......$$$$$$$ you know

Re: New Build (AIR, FullRace, DART, etc.)

low power goals are smart, i like how the OP understands that once people learn how to drive with their goal power and get used to it they always want more, he seems to understand that in order to reach a goal you should build for alteast twice that goal. that way when you do finally reach a power level that you're comfortable with you are still safe.

this assumes the car is tuned competently, though it looks like he has a pretty good idea of how to build a boosted honda.

setup looks pretty sick. i like it.

very well put!

just a FYI Andrea at evans tuning has your same exhaust manifold, intake manifold, and turbocharger. if you go on their forums you can dig up her dynochart. 65Xwhp

i made 616 on my 35r with a smaller AR and a stock head. you should have ZERO problems making your power goals with tons of room to grow.

i cant beleive i didnt notice it before...but get yourself an ati or a fluiddamper....protect your investment!

Thanks for the comments. A fluiddamper is still in my thoughts. I've actually seen bad wear problems on crank journals because of a damper. And I can't recall ever reading about, or seeing a motor lose itself due to not having one of these. But I think I might go ahead and invest in one. Still unsure though. Oh, and thanks for the FYI. I'm going to check it out right now.

Re: New Build (AIR, FullRace, DART, etc.)

there is no negatives to running a damper.....if you saw weird crank wear it was from something else.

the BIGGEST thing with running a damper is that it helps a ton with oil pump breakage problems...which no matter which way you look at it, it IS a problem with high horsepower, high rpm honda's.

Well.., Low boost tuning has been completed. At 15 lbs. (Wastegate spring) It made 392.9 whp / 266.3 ft. lbs. on a Mustang Dyno. When calculated with the avg. loss through a Mustang Dyno (10%), It's producing about 432.2 whp / 292.9 ft. lbs. on a Dyno Jet. Not bad for the low boost and 93 octane. Monday is the high boost tune, and will push about 28 - 30 psi. Still hoping for the 550 whp range. I think it'll be reached.

Here's the plot:

Thanks to Jack @ P1auto.
