So as part of my strategy to cope with my feet issues in trying ice soaks for my feet.

Omfg this shit hurts. I don't know how mother fuckers do full body dips. I mean it's only up to my ankles and my calves hurt its so cold. One of my toes feels like it's on fire. Fucking shit.

I must be an idiot to do this just so I can run more. I mean even my own doctor basically said quit running.

Warning, Spoiler:
Sorry, couldn't resist

Just leave them in there until they go numb. I think it gets easier over time, too.

How's that fast 5km, no quick 1/2, no full going, twat?

If you paid attention, the non-official century I was going to do was up to a mountain town. It's winter. Thus it's waiting till spring.

But cycling is always second fiddle to running, provided I can run. So I'm doing my best to keep my body able to run.

It got a lot better after minute 3. They felt amazing after 10 minutes.

Yeah, I think she's gotta go. Too dismissive. "running is bad, why don't you take up cycling(sport of twats, see stickaz), or swimming(do I look like a seal lady?! Plus I'm obviously a vag about cold any water).

What specifically is bothering you with your feet? Have you looked for a sports specific doc?

I've been suffering from planta fasciatus in one form or another since about the time you were in town.

I've got a sports specific PT recommendation, but not a doc. Haven't bothered yet though.

I suspect the problem comes down to:
I've got weak arches (i've had this before)
most my non-running shoes are worn out
My running shoes need even more support, i.e super feet
I do deadlifts and squats barefoot (i.e I need lifting shoes).
I don't have any arch support around the house (i.e wear a elastic brace)

I suspect if I solved those 4 issues (along with icing and stretching) I could beat it. The last time I had it, I found super feet went a long way.

I really want to feel bad for you. But yeah, you REALLY need to see an orthopedic specialist with a focus in sports/preventative medicine.

The PTs here talk about it a lot and say the primary cause is extreme heel strike and insufficient cushioning/worn out running shoes.

*you son of a bitch. [I hope you figure it out of course, but I sorta secretly wish I couldn't run physically lol. knock on wood*, ok not really I guess]

**also I think I must be genetically predisposed to a slow 5k lol. keep an eye on strava!!

***In all seriousness tho it is inevitable that our bodies will give up running first, then cycling. The last rung is swimming.

My doctor was trying to say I need to just take is easy for longer and use orthotics before sending me anywhere else...

I'm trying to understand what you're saying, You say I need a Ortho specilist, but then you say a PT can diagnose the cause.

I think you should give the moonshoes a try (aka Hokas). I can't even count the number of people I know who suffered through various injuries for years and Hokas gave them a new lease on their running life. My dad converted a couple years ago. He's the fittest 59 year old I know but his lower legs kept him from more than a hobble on anything longer than 3 or 4 miles. The day he got them he was able to run pain free for the first time in years.

The Ortho will rule out other factors such as misalignment, muscle imbalance, fractures, and other disorders. They generally X-Ray the pain area (occasionally an MRI) to ensure there's nothing else going on. From there, depending on what they confirm, they'll get you involved with a PT for targeted recovery.

In my case, I was pretty sure I had a stiff IT band. But after X-Rays the doc also noticed a slight misalignment with the left kneecap which resulted in additional recommended exercises with the PT. It was all due to my leg misalignment. But the extent of my condition could not have been diagnosed by a PT alone.

There was another shoe you were using recently, also pretty high cushion, no?

Yeah, the Altra Olympus. I would recommend them, but they are zero drop shoes so that probably wouldn't help your current situation.

Hoka has a few different models that range from major cushioning to not so much cushioning (but they're still like 3x the amount of a regular shoe.

Have you tried a night splint/Strassburg sock?

Yeah, the Hoka's might be good for my road miles. Agreed on no 0-drop, there's some evidence that would make it worse even (tight achilles, one of the causes of plantar fascia).

I haven't yet tried the night splint, it's on my long list of products. Basically all I've tried until recently was occasional stretching and "taking it easy" but a year later I'm in worse running shape than I started.

So I'm realizing that I probably need to take a look at my whole set-up. Like I said earlier, there's probably like 5 things I'm doing wrong to my feet that are compounding. From barefoot squats, to not using a night splint, to worm out soles in my work shoes.

I've heard rolling it on a frozen water bottle is awesome for it too.

How is the treadwear on your running shoes? Evenly distributed wear or does it fade more quickly on the edges, heel or forefoot? I overpronate very slightly on the left side due to my misalignment. But I am primarily a neutral runner.

I think you remember me saying I went through the whole nine yards again to get fitted for shoes. I wasn't keen on ditching the many pairs of Supernova Glides I had been using the last two years; but I now have contacts at Asics with killer deals on their lineup. Like you I wanted something with a little more cushioning but enough structure to maintain proper form in the longer miles. I was evaluated/recommended the GT2000-3 for my marathon training, and they have been awesome.

Some others we looked at were the Kayano 21 which had a little more cushion in the heel/midfoot, but the same structure/support as the GT200-3. The Nimbus was VERY comfortable and light, but it didn't feel as supportive as the other two in the midfoot area.

These usually run around the $100-140 range but you can find them for $60-80 on last year's model closeout. Not saying Asics is the answer, but worth checking out as the above models tend to rank favorably with those suffering from P-F. GL.
