Gents,
I would like your assistance in getting into a routine at the gym as a post-surgery and advanced therapy program. I had a minor surgery on my knee in November and due to some complications, has taken a bit longer to recover from than normal. That said, I "graduated" therapy late December and my wife and I joined a gym with pools and classes for me to continue my rehab. I've since been doing spinning classes (1x week), Yoga (1-2x week), walking, and (very) light jogging.
That said, I'd like to have a routine on my non-class days. They have very nice "road" stationary bikes (with the tv screen so it's like a video game) with preset courses that I do for 35-45 minutes each time. After that, I stretch, then bounce out. Any other recommendations on exercises to implement, specifically items that will focus on rebuilding quad/knee strength without overexerting it and regressing?
I've begun using Myfitnesspal again (about 6 weeks ago) and am down 10lb since I started fresh, basically.
Matt

If you are going to get in the pool after surgery make sure your doctor says its ok. The last thing you want to do is submerge a less than 100% healed surgery incision in pool water and end up with an infection. Oh, Im 100% cleared in that regard. My surgery was Nov 6th. We have no worries about infection (and it was scoped as well, so small incisions).

Check with your doc on light resistance training. Specifically deadlifts and back squats (or maybe machines to start). They have been instrumental in reducing my recovery time between runs. And they have been key to optimizing my calves/quads/glutes/hamstrings/extensors to absorb shock from the impact of running (vs. the joints).
In talking with other runners, this seems to be the one thing they all wish they had incorporated much earlier in their routines. GL.

I'm assuming that is exactly what it sounds like, correct? I need to dig out my swimsuit then. Yup, you wear a little floaty waist belt and "run" across the pool (no touching the bottom.) I would have been doing it wrong. I thought it was run (while touching bottom) and use the water resistance to help build strength. Glad I asked.
