only had (1) commute so far, so not much data to go by. Plus I pushed it a little bit AND I think the morning headwind was really subtle. I was just thinking gaining 1.0 mph would be super optimistic on the bike swap

Comparing these bikes:

2010 Specialized Sirrus Sport--100% stock
I tend to avg ~15.5-16.0 mph on my commute moving avg [heh slow]

2011 Cannondale CAAD-10 5--Stock other than a leanback seatpost
this morning I just avgd 17.0 [never gone above 16.4 or so on the Sirrus even with a nice tailwind] A forum historian may note I posted a white CAAD-10 earlier: that purchase fell though and I just got this one yesterday

I was anticipating no more than a 0.5mph gain.

Any idea? Or just let more data come in.

This is the new one: Minor chain creaking once in a while depending on gear, needs some adjustment for sure otherwise no perceptible speed robbing issues I can detect. In some gears it's completely quiet

This is the old one:

The rear wheel/hub has seen better days also. Bit of a wobble I cant seem to true out. Doesnt rub the brakes, but it's noticeable.

A drop bar bike is absolutely faster than a flat bar bike. A TT/tri bike will be faster than a drop bar bike.

Cripes, I'm noticing that aero wheels are noticeably faster than standard wheels.

CAAD10 is a decent race bike, so for sure, you'll be faster on it.

BTW--the creaking might be your bottom bracket if it's a press-fit BB. They are notorious for getting creaky. The solution is to pull the bearings and reinstall them with Loctite on them (can't remember if it's red or blue Loctite)

I'm going to need an Excel spreadsheet to confirm.

velo viewer does it for you from strava data, hehe. should have 10 commutes to compare with by friday

Update: 1st commute day: 16.9/17.1 mph moving avg [17.0 mph]--18.1 miles
: 2nd commute day: 16.9 mph to-work [9.1 miles]

seems to be hanging in there with the ~17.0 mph avg. I'm definitely pushing harder than normal, possible placebo effect in progress

just checked and this mornings attempt at this 3.0m segment was 13s under my personal best [which includes quite a few tailwind efforts]. its not reflected in this list yet tho

I have calendars over the past 2 years with the distance/time/avg speed of every ride I did. Never put it into a spreadsheet tho.

Granted, as I built my base mileage, I got faster, too.

One of my regular loops that I've ridden a fuckton served as a decent baseline for what equipment is faster. My backup bike is consistently 1 mph slower than my main bike.

Road bike shit is the nerdiest shit on Earth.

you are probably faster just due to being in a more aero position on the hoods or in the drops
