Crazy heart beat when lifting heavy?

So I have been working on Phase 1 of Maximum Strength lately, and this week has been the "heavy" week where there are slightly less reps but double the amount of sets. I've also been stepping up the weight and am just under my max for each exercise.
Unfortunately at the same time I've been feeling like my heart is trying to explode. Wednesday, chest day, it was beating so hard that I could feel it through my chest and I had to take a breather. It's not necessarily beating fast, just hard. After lifting it calms down, but I can still feel something for a day or two afterwards. It's not pain, just "something", maybe a heavy type feeling.
I've been active running and did a round of p90x before this with no problems, so I think it's directly related to the weight. I've also scheduled a physical in a few weeks to make sure there are no major issues but in the meantime has anybody experienced this?

Are you on any pwo supps?
I'm not taking anything, but I do consume a fair amount of caffeine though coffee, tea, etc. I have been trying to cut that down since this started. But it's only been a week.

not that. after a heavy workout, sometimes Ill feel a little... off. and like, as I inhale, I cant hear as well. guessing thats blood pressure related.
hit the doc, hear too many stories about people with completely undiagnosed heart conditions that end up killing them during exercise, that could have been avoided if they had known. neighbor dropped dead one day, out running around the block, just bam, fell flat, dead before he hit the pavement, neighbor mowing lawn saw it, tried CPR, nothing. Dude was like 27. However, that guy DID know he had a heart condition...

That happened to me one time when I took an EC stack. Played soccer, and next you know I had to stop and was dry heaving like no other. Heart was beating a million miles a minute. What do you eat pre workout?

What do you eat pre workout?
Nothing usually, sometimes a yogurt or maybe a piece of fruit. I eat lunch around 2-3 and then hit the gym at 6 so I'm usually not hungry until afterwards.
