I put it on at about about 6 months ago. I was at about 29,000 mile when I put it on, now I'm at 44,xxx miles. Do I need to clean my filter? Its still has oil on it, but it looks kinda black.

The filter charger kits say like every 50,000 to 100,000 miles. Supposedly the dirt helps filter. I cleaned mine recently, after about 20,000miles and it really looked dirty but when i cleaned it I was quite supprised cause it really wasn't too dirty at all. I think the red filter oil gets black pretty easy and tends to look dirtier than it really is.

Question: Does water get into your intake when it rains alot or if you drive through a puddle? I juss put my intake on a few days ago, and it's really low in the front. I'm afraid water may get in there. Any idea?

It can if you go through a large puddle. If you ordered the AEM CAI they have a device called a bypass valve. It won't allow any water to go up into your intake and cause hydrolock on your engine.

That only works if you completely submurge the filter element. If it's not completely submurged, water won't get past the filter anyways.

What do you use to clean your filter? An old toothbrush or something?

You gotta start somewhere, for recharging the filter, just follow the directions, and as for doin the headlights and stuff like that, jump in, hope that you have someone to help. Remember you always have the board to ask questions. If you really wanna get into your car then i suggest buying a helms manual, it was one of the best things I did for my car

I heard that your supose to replace the filter from 50,000 to 100,000 miles. Not clean it. But to tell you the truth I don't know, I don't have a cleaner kit.

The cleaner is basically a simple green. Any biodegradable cleaner will work. Then just a light spray of oil after its dry. Simple simple

1. take out the filter
2. wash from the inside out (never from the outside in or you will push the dirt into the filter).
3. spray the K&N cleaner on and let it sit for 10 minutes
4. spray with water from the inside out.
5. let it dry (don't put in oven or hair dry it to speed it up - it will mess up the gauze)
6. resoak with the K&N oil
7. let it dry for about 1-2 hours
8. reinstall

When my mpg starts to drop. It doesn't hurt to clean it more often than not. I clean mine about every wheel rotation since I have the wheels off anyway.
