I wanna remove and paint my valve cover WHITE. Any ideas on how to do this? I'm assuming I use a high temp paint, but, and ideas what kind?? Also, is it easiy to remove the valve cover? Do I need to re-tighten it with a certin torque?

Thanks,

talk to virux about the paint, the valve cover coves off in a few minutes, only held on by 8 bolts, u need to tighten it down to 7.2 ft lbs

I used regular paint and a high-temp clearcoat and have had no problems. See NICKELZ post for a pic of mine.

someone say my name?

anyway, its easy.

first, take it off, like 8 bolts or something, real easy. remove all the gaskets from the bolt holes and spark plugs holes.

next, your gunna want to strip the stock power coating off of it. easy was is aircraft stripper. spary that suff in there, and you will be able to spray that black shit off with a hose. no lie. nasty shit.

now, as far as painting it. i used high temp primer, high temp white and high temp clear coat(any brand will do). i got it a pepboys. decent stuff. i got the stuff rated at 500 degrees but i would sudgest going higher because the white has turned a little after time. it will burn a little bit and get a slight yellowish tint. not bad but i have a feeling thats preventiable with higher temp paint. do light coats and make sure the layer below is compleetly dry. as far as the letters go, you have 2 choices. one way is to paint over em and then sand the tops after your done. this way works well. or you can cover the top with vasiliene and then paint the cover. the paint wont stick to where were you but the vas, but if you get any on the cover it self, it wont stick there either...

then, after its all dryed and looks nice, put it back on using a new gasket (optional but advisable) and gasket sealer where it was on the stock cover(around the cam humps).
make sure you cean the old gasket sealer off so that you get a nice flush seal.

then all you gotta do is tighten the 8 bolts back up to spec. i dont rememebr what the torq spec was but it wasent much.i wanna say 23lbs but dont quote me on that.

thats it.

sudgestion: if i were to do it again, i would have had it powdered coated. that shit wont turn colors, easy to clean, and far less pron to scratching. just a sudgestion...

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
yeah, kermit is gone...

Yup, looks good!!! Just like mine! But don't torque it down to 23 ft. lbs.!!!!! That is WAY too much, all you need to do its tighten it down and then another little twist, doesn't need to be on there too tight, you WILL bust the bolts, they break easily.
