You know, the ones who have more than one of the same car...
01' GS430 with 198x,xxx miles, it's in decent shape for the miles inside and out. It runs and drives great, I drove it home 7 hours yesterday from NC to TN. Car pics from the dealer.
Daily driver 04' GS430 for reference.

I've been watching craigslist and autotrader for months, snagged this one for $5450 out the door. There were two things I needed in the GS 1) that the car be an 01'+ because the front suspensions on the 98-00' cars can fail, and it's about $1k to update it to the 01'+, 2) it needed to be a V8 car to get the proper gearing in the rear end, 3.26 vs 3.92 ratio in the 6cyl.

It's pretty common on clublexus. People either go full 2JZ swap or NA-T, which is a stock short block but the head and turbo from the 2JZ I believe. I thought about that swap, but wanted to do something with ellis.

I will be making room in the new car for: + + If you want to make room for these things, I'd suggest taking out the rear seat and such. The engine should be able to fit where the seat would reside, footwell area. The trans can get in the trunk...maybe need to move the spare? The turbo, hell, could probably fit in the glovebox. Safer there anyways.
Of course, you could have just bought a pick-up...

Picked up the engine and trans this weekend, and started cleaning out the garage to make room to work. Had to change the rear rotors/pads on the DD today, one was down to metal on metal.
On to the good stuff. Everything was already pulled for me when I got to the junk yard Sat morning.
Engine: 5.3L from an 04' Chevy Avalanche.
Transmission: 4L80E from an 01' Chevy Silverado 2500 for $706, best deal I could find around here.
I got the stock computer and wiring harness.
Plus the accessories that I needed, power steering pump and alternator for $603.
The 4L80E is a beastly sized transmission, I'm sure it will be a tight fit in the GS430 tunnel.

How much custom fab is this going to require?

It will only require custom fabricating everything. Though the engine/turbo/trans combination are a well sorted, well documented setup. Others have already done the LSx swaps in GS's so it's not completely new. It will be the first the first turbo 5.3L that I know of in a GS430.

Garage is finally squared away, and made a little bit of progress on tearing down the engine.
Plugs all looked good.
Nice and clean under the valve cover other than some debris that fell in when I pulled it off.
Parts pulled.
Looks like I'll need some additional parts, at least two coils, new spark plug wires, and a center bolt valve cover(damaged internally where the gasket fits). I'll probably end up buying an aftermarket harness.

Heads initially looked pretty clean.
Not as clean in the chambers. There's a white buildup on a few of the exhaust valves?
Cylinder walls look good.

Short block is ready for a cam/timing chain swap.
Heads are cleaned up and ready for a valve spring swap. This is what 15 cans of engine degreaser and brake cleaner will get you. Time to order some parts.

Turbo came in this week thanks to VSRacing, recommended by Denmah. Also got a bunch of parts from Uberpollo on here at a great discount through streetsideauto.com

I stalled out on this project for a few months due to the amount of time my previous job was eating up. I started a new job a month ago, and time management's much better at the new new job plus a lot of other benefits. I order a Circle D converter on Black Friday for 5% off and free shipping which helps on a $1000 converter. Debating if I should just sell my 5.3L short block and buy an AES forged 5.3L short block for $2600. Denmah has already shown the rods bend at the power level's I'm looking at, so I think I may move in this direction. I'd like to do the assembly myself, but at their prices, it's not worth the risk, time, cost of tools, etc.

No, you will have to call. It's a Precision Turbo 7576 with the billet wheel. He beat everyone else's price when I called around, by a decent amount.

Snagged this on Black Friday, it showed up today.
Circle D, multi-disc, billet, lock up torque converter, ~4000rpm stall.
