So today during lunch I swung by a local dealer to drop something off, and ran into a ricey Mustang on the expressway. It was one of the rounder ones that came out in like 95 or 96 I believe. It sounded like absolute shit, and I spotted no exhaust tips in the back. It wasn't THAT loud so I don't think he had a dump pipe or anything, but it was just this raspy shitty exhaust note.

Since we had a decent stretch of open highway and this guy wouldn't give up with the revving and fly by's, I decided to give it a shot. We more or less started at ~60mph with me in 3rd, and from the get go I was pulling away slowly, not as quickly as I thought I should have been pulling away from a riced out V6. We went through 4th, and by the time he let off around 100mph, I had about half a car. It wasn't total devastation like I thought.

Distinguishing marks were a "5.0" badge on the front quarter panels, and some sort of gauge on the A-pillar, and altezzas. He had one passenger and I was alone. I couldn't tell what wheels they were but most likely they weren't the stock ones. So what did I race? V6 with a bunch of power mods? V8 with a shitty driver?

Stock 5.0's and 4.6's of that gen have trouble trapping 90mph stock at my local track.

Probably a V6 w/ badges if it was riced out. It really takes a lot of practice to make a 5.0 sound skanky.

Stock 5.0 is exactly fast, but they get upto speed with exponential progress. Pretty much everything on those cars stock, as far as the power goes, is a bottle neck. Stock heads/cam/intake manifolds suck. Stock exhaust is tiny and has 4 cats. The car peaks power at 4200 for crying out loud, so it's not exactly a highway assasin.

I am not sure on what car you were driving but I thought you had an EVO? Depending on what it was usually a well driven stock 5.0L of the SN95 vintage should trap low 90s and the same for the 96-98 2 valve 4.6L. Exhaust and whatver else should add to that decently. Bigger heavier wheels not so much. But hey its got to be driven right and maintained correctly to shoulda woulda coulda.

Prolly NAWWWSSSS on a 5.0. I drove a buddies that had headers back to side exhaust and gears and it was still a pig.

I don't think a lot of V6 guys put on 5.0 badges because they are proud of their V6 strugglez.

I also didn't think many people did dumps and dumps are loud and sound sloppy, but when you get on it, they sound more V8 racers than tractor.

Could have been a standard stockish 5.0 with some spray or with an entry level blower trim. SN95's are typically mid-low 13's with stockish parts and the old A trim at 5-6 psi.
