Well, if you think about it, especially in the UK, with shows like Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson going off about how damn near every American car is a steaming pile, it makes sense. It's just a matter of catering to a particular audience, in that anti-US sentiment is pretty high just about everywhere and if reassuring the buyer that there's nothing in it that's American to sell it, then more power to them. They're right, for the most part. 95% of American vehicles are imprecise, floaty, cloudmobiles with no redeeming qualities other than being rental sled fodder.
Now, granted, it's not gonna work with everything, for instance, advertising for a Chinese/Asian buffet restaurant isn't gonna work if the billboard says "No Korean", implying there's dog in the Korean place across the street's food.

OK then..think about it like this. How's that ad any different from the car ads that were big in the 80's here in the US that praised the "Made in the USA" angle on them?

Maybe the fact that we weren't being derogative by saying Germany sucks goat nuts? lol. Seriously though it would be one thing if the billboard said "german made" and not "glad it doesn't have american shit in it, because it would suck ass. common. Being a proud american and having ancestors who came here on the mayflower, I think benz can go suck it, i'll never give them a penny of my fortunes  I've ridden in many a benz, overrated. but there are lots of people in the us who cater to the status the benz name has. lemmings.
