unless you are going to auto cross or race, turbo or s/c just doesn't really make sense.
mostly because once you go there, you will have to use premium gas and at todays prices, just not a good idea.

Wut? Nowadays there is barely any difference between the grades. They all cost an arm and a leg.

Not only that but you can run 87 octane with boost. Their was a 9 second turbo V8 in hot rod awhile back that ran 87 octane. The owner said that boost was the best way for him to make 9 second power on low octane. A high compression build would require high octane.

I guess it would work if you retarded power enough like on a bad tank of gas.

But running 20 psi without pulling the pin > saving a few bucks

20 psi on 87 octane would be pretty easy on say a DSM. However it'd be much harder on say a Honda. I've actually ran 20psi on pump in my dsm, no biggie. Still a little boost whether it be 6psi, 10psi, or 20psi is better than no boost. I'm not sure how much nitrous you can run on 87 octane but boosted motors burn slow and long while nitrous motors burn fast and quick. This means that nitrous motors have higher peak pressures and are harder on parts for the same HP levels. Nitrous is great at cooling however so it is almost like adding octane as it cools the intake charge. I'm not sure in the real world which one would win on 87 octane, but if the hot rod pump gas drags have anything to say about how to make pump gas power it requires a turbo......and displacement. My friend has been trying to run 9's on a pump gas 4 cyl dsm and it has been a struggle. On 92 octane they have ran 10.02. Meanwhile v8's are running deep 8's on 93 octane fuel.

I run 18 psi daily on 93 pump. I haven't had problems with it yet.

I am not certain but I think that the 10 sec miata guys were running race gas. Not certain, but I think so. I am not sure where the cutoff if between pump and race for my car. I haven't reached it yet, in any case.

edit: yeah, if I had like 400+ ci of displacement I could probably break the sound barrier on 87 with a turbo.

lol fuel.

I know from experience that a rental Kia gains superpowers..relatively speaking of course, from a nearly dry gas tank and 4 gallons of 40% nitro R/C car fuel.

I wonder how many times this phrase has been used on message boards populated by DSM fanbois with $50 in mods that run 12s.

But if it were a turbo dodge message board...it would only be $12 in mods.

10psi on a DSM will barely make enough power for it to get out of its own way. 10psi on a B16 is a really strong running car. I'm just saying that boost is relative. Actually an all alumiumn motor like a honda *should* make more pump gas power. However it is the DSM guys who have always pushed 4 cyl pump gas and race gas power. 600whp on pump in a 4g is right around the corner. Still its a fine line setup. 1000whp on 87 octane V8 I believe has been done but it could have been 89 or cali 91 piss fuel (about the same as my 87 octane on the right coast).
