hehehe... yes it has VTEC... it's only SOHC though, so you probably can't notice it.

What's your intake look like - I'm pretty sure they are different on the d16y7 and the d16y5(?) If a pipe goes into the manifold similar to the pic above, it's the vtec if you have a square box where the pipe ends (behind the engine) it's not. But the SI-G (group option package) is the US ex version and yes it comes with vtec (unless someone swapped the engine on you )

D16YS? I don't have the codes memorized, but the newbie handbook (very good info in there by the way, check it out) with all the codes only lists these D16 series motors....

D16A1 1.6 16V DOHC PGM-FI 1590 113hp@6250rpm 99tq@5500rpm '86-'89 Integra (USA)
D16A3 1.6 16V DOHC PGM-FI 1590 118hp@6500rpm 103tq@5500rpm '88-'89 Integra (USA)
D16A6 1.6 16V SOHC PGM-FI 1590 108hp@6000rpm 100tq@5000rpm '88-'91 Civic Si
'88-'91 CRX Si
D16A8/9 1.6 16V DOHC PGM-FI 1595 137hp@6800rpm 108tq@5700rpm '88-'91 Civic/CRX Si (JDM)
'90-'93 Integra LS/RS (USA)
D16Y5 1.6 16V SOHC VTEC-E PGM-FI 1590 115hp@6200rpm 104tq@5400rpm '96-'00 Civic HX (USA)
D16Y7 1.6 16V SOHC PGM-FI 1590 106hp@6200rpm 103tq@4600rpm '96-'00 Civic CX/DX/LX (USA)
D16Y8 1.6 16V SOHC VTEC-II PGM-FI 1590 127hp@6600rpm 107tq@5500rpm '96-'00 Civic EX (USA)
D16Z6 1.6 16V SOHC VTEC PGM-FI 1590 125hp@6600rpm 106tq@5200rpm '92 - '95 Civic EX/Si (USA)
'93-'95 Del Sol Si (USA)

My guess is it's a D16Y5

LOL are you guys blind it says D16Y8. LOL. But I don't think that a SOHC VTEC head because I don't see the Vtec solenoid by the intake manifold. maybe it's a hybrid. But then again I can't see the solenoid. If it is the Y8 than yes you do have an SOHC VTEC engine. But not the B16 DOHC VTEC engine. Typically it would say Honda VTEC for the SOHC's but this one doesn't.

My 93 Si Hatchback has a D16Z6 SOHC VTEC motor and it doesn't say VTEC on the head. I thought that none of the SOHC motors said VTEC on the head...

Your block looks to my like it says D16Y8, that motor has vtec. But the trim on your car (unpainted side moldings, and no sun roof) doesn't look like the EX trim on a USDM model, more like an HX. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that the Canadian SI was the equivalent to a USDM EX model, not an SI-G model. Oh and there is no vtec on the valve cover of a D16Y8 either, just says honda. Are you sure that someone didn't swap and engine in there?
Just my $.02
