i likes it.

I love my old school Nikon 50mm 1.4

The vintageness of it gives some nice looking colors.

What does that have to do with a 24mm f/1.4? I guess 1.4? But seriously, not even the same thing we are talking about.

Those photos are incredibly lackluster, and a few are downright sloppy.

I just don't like them. I think the shots are boring and poorly composed/executed. I'm sure the lens is nice though.

I thought the two I posted were excellent (if over-saturated for the first one). And I dug the high-contrast portraits.

Man I'm totally not being a dick, completely serious... The second one is "okay" as in there is nothing wrong with the photo, I still find it boring though. But number one, what exactly about that photo is "excellent" in your mind? All I see is a painfully obvious example of "crap, Nikon told me I have to make sure to show that the lens opens up to 1.4" And it's a poorly composed, overdone HDR, of a subject with literally limitless possibilities (none of which the photographer managed to tap) at that.

The second shot is all about the drama in the lighting. The first shot does an excellent job of conveying the scene and feel of abandonment. Yes, the truck is over saturated and that layer should be toned down a little bit. But there's nothing wrong with the composition, other than perhaps it's not all that original. My quick gut response to both of those shots was , and I stand by it.

cheers,
scott

Okay well you're the film student so I won't argue semantics.

Speaking of being a student, I'm doing a project that supposed to be inspired by the "New Topographics" photographers of the early 70's that's redefining boring, uninspired images. But what can you do when the people you're instructed to imitate were boring as hell themselves?

Either way when i can afford to go FX then ill be looking for a new wide prime.. so its either this or the 20mm f/1.8 or even the 18mm f/2.8.
