I don't know if anyone in this digital age still cares for this type of thing, but here's my post about making a print portfolio.
I'm attending a workshop in a couple weeks, and they recommended bringing a portfolio to show. Some will bring laptops, ipads, or printed coffee-table style books. I've decided to go the traditional route and make my own prints and put em in a nice binder. I was thinking of making a coffee-style book, but the paper isn't as nice as actual photo paper can be. Plus, I'm running short on time for the turn-around. So anyway, here's what I'm thinking of...
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/70...#specifications

w/ some 310gsm weight paper.. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/403840-REG/Hahnemuhle_644405_50_Photo_Rag_Satin_Inkjet.html

I'll keep this thread updated as I complete it. Hopefully I can impress somebody w/ it to hook up a job.

I think the iPad has it's place but the printed portfolio is still def more appropriate for any sort of serious portfolio showing. I really need to make myself something similar. How many pages is the portfolio you posted? I am inclined to believe you can get a better price than $75 for a nicely bound leather port, but maybe not if it's especially big or something. IMO as long as the port is nice and feels good in your hands it doesn't need to be like SUPER expensive like some of them are.

I'm actually looking at the 3880 to replace my B9180. One of my biggest reservations is loading the rear paper feed. I HATED it on my 2400. I would get head strikes and misaligned feeds constantly. That was IF it took the paper. Let me know if you try it and how well or not well it feeds. Id really be interested in knowing. It was one of the main reasons I got rid of the 2400.
Thanks and good luck with the portfolio review!

fer sure. the people who will be seeing this includes editors of top news pubs including Time, Newsweek, NG, RS, SI, NYT, WP, PDN, Getty, Reuters, AP, etc.
i've been reading that 16-20 is a good number for a book. the one posted can hold up to 25. i'm thinking of making two w/ 20 pages each, some w/ multiple prints on one page. i bought all the materials today for about $400 my teacher showed me several sample portfolios he had lying around...one was like $2000!!

Right on man well I hope you get some work from it. Looks like you'll need about 400 pages of editorial to cover your costs so far.

well, 2 days left, and i finally started printing. ran into a couple issues so far. first, the fine art glossy paper soaks up the black. i had to adjust the Black w/ Detail all the way up to 26-28.
second, the Epson 3880 has finishing issues w/ this paper. on 3-4 of the 10 prints i did today had black ink leakage on the last corner. the print itself is fine...it's just the corner at $4.80 a print and w/ time running out, i'm wondering if i should just forget about it.

other than that, the prints are awesome. the paper feels like normal fine art matte paper, but the print itself has a satin sheen to it to give it some more saturation than typical matte prints.

gotta stay up tonight and finish processing so i can knock out the rest of the prints tomorrow right away. getting excited for the workshop!
*UPDATE* so the ink splotches on the corner was b/c the paper is thicker than normal. i was told i need to set the printer head distance at "wider". reprinting 6 sheets just b/c of a corner...$30. in other news...anyone wanna buy some prints?
