Spec Sheet: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Sony/sony_dschx5.asp
Love this thing (so far)! It was between this or the Canon S90, only because so many people had good things to say about it. But I have always liked Sony's for their speed, minimal shutter lag, etc. So comparing the two cameras, I liked the Canon S90 for the manual controls. That was the main reason why I considered it since I like having control over my photos. I'm not an auto type of shooter, even with my p&s. It was winning until I realized that Sony had an iSweep panoramic feature. I was thinking it was going to be a gimmick that will help retards take better photos. While the latter may be true, it really is a great feature. You can sweep left, right, up or down.
Examples (straight out of camera, resized):

Since this and the AVCHD sold me, I bought it. Then as I explored the camera more, I found an HDR-like setting, which is basically like auto bracket but with only two photos. So if you understand bracketing, you'll understand this feature. I don't have an example, but the image just looks like boosting shadows and reducing highlights but a little cleaner. Meh, may or may not use it. We'll see.
The other feature I found was the Anti-Blur Motion feature. This isn't anti-shake, it uses that in whatever shooting mode you're in. What this one does is takes 3-5 photos very quickly then compiles them into one shot. Here is a quick test I did (more to come later):
Program Mode, zoomed 10x, quick shot:

Program Mode, zoomed 10x, attempted to steady my hand:

Anti-Blur Motion mode, zoomed 10x:

So it did a great job on what could have turned out to be an otherwise blurry image. Gimmicky? yeah, a little, but I may use this here and there. We'll see.
So for $350 - $100 GC - 10% coupon, I think I got a great quality, 10x, pocket p&s. Well, i'm happy and that's all that matters.

Fuck, I just realized the Anti-blur setting jacks the ISO up. It still takes 3-5 photos, but ISO went from 125 to 3200.
I is :embarrassed:

THat third picture looks great though despite the high iso!
And yeah of course a P&S is going to jack up ISO when anti-blur is on, they want the fastest exposure time absolutely possible. I'm still going to read up on this feature a little more because the way I understood it was that it takes those 3-5 photos and realigns them to produce an image with minimal bluring. If it truly was just a high ISO boost, i'm going to be a *little* upset, but not enough to create a stink.
