So I got a new IPS display recently and figured it was worth some real effort to profile since it's a pretty decent panel. I'd done a visual profile using the built in Mac OS utility and this site, but went and rented a Color Munki anyway to dial it in perfectly. The results were a fucking mess though. Dim, low contrast, and kind of yellow green. Did it multiple times, easy mode, advanced mode, light on, light off, all the results were shit. Anybody know what could be up? Is a profiled display supposed to look like ass? There's a before and after at the end where you're supposed to be impressed as you toggle back and forth between your old and new calibration, and the one done by colorimiter looked awful in comparison.

I trust my eyes more than technology.
Scott dude!
We need to have a talk. You're too advanced a shooter to be giving away photos to big companies for $50 and to be ignorant of what a calibrated monitor can do for you. Not even joking here.

You can rent monitor calibrating hardware/software.

I just tried out the printer profile yesterday and it too sucked. Ah well, waste of $60.

I'm getting some prints ready, or trying to, for a show next weekend. I have this Epson Watercolor paper that's about $1.50 a sheet in 13x19, which is great. My wife's uncle uses it and produces fucking incredible images...I can't get the color to look any better then "meh". Going to try creating my own profile tomorrow, but I'm bummed. I really wanted to use this paper So...using Canon Luster right now. The prints look fantastic, but no FEEL

Imagine that, the the Hahnemuhle paper that is thrice the price of the Epson watercolor, is super nice comparatively. It's coated, where as I'm guessing the Epson isn't. And, I'm not going to take the time to make a profile right now for the Epson. I'm running through a sample pack of the HM stuff with their profiles and it's really quite nice. I like the Photo Rag Bright White. I actually do prefer the ultra smooth texture but the colors aren't as swell. Again, make my own profile... I used to make profiles for 10' printers, running banner vinyl, different types of cloth, etc, and the system was a giant piece of shit and would constantly crash midway through the profile creation. I don't miss those days.

canon pro-100. i'm pretty happy with the provided profiles, so that's interesting. I'll have to rent a different meter...I was disappointed to discover that my i1DISPLAY will only do displays I'd won a multi thousand dollar piece of display calibration software (home theater style) in a giveaway, but already had it, so worked on a deal with the guys and got this $200 meter instead It's worked well for me though, so I can't complain. That and the fact that it was free.
