Were going to be spending a week in Disney World / Universal Studios in December. I currently have the kit lens that came with my D7100 which is a 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 and the 50MM F/1.8. So for those that have been to Disney World and such, what did you take with you into the park? lenses? monopod? Recommendations on lenses to rent or buy etc...

Cell phones and a good p&s. might have brought a nex or some kind of pocketable mirrorless with a pancake lens if we had one.

Enjoy your vacation. Do you really want to walk around all day for a week with a couple pounds of camera around your neck? Let alone a tripod or monopod?

If you must bring the slr, I'd bring the 50mm or the kit lens, not both.

The 50mm is too long on a crop. Wouldn't bother with it, just use the kit.

Unless you've been thinking about the 35mm 1.8G lens. That thing stayed welded to my D90 unless using a telephoto. Looking back, wish I had kept it. The 35mm was a perfect walk-around lens on a crop sensor.

Bring both lenses, leave the 18-105 on most of the time, 50mm for dark areas. Don't bring a monopod or tripod or anything else (maybe a flash if needed, but I rarely use mine).

Keep it light. Unless you're there for something photography based, use it to capture what you want and that's it.

Skierd: A few pounds won't bother me at all. I've been in the Army for 15 years now and have carried 50 pound rucks for many miles. LOL

FlyEX #1: Yeah, I know it's going to be a really busy time for the park too and I don't want to have to step to far back. I don't want to be the guy that holds people up from walking into the frame just so I can get a pic. I do love the 50mm lens though.

I know that having a fast lens like that 35mm will be a good choice so I can get good low light pictures. Especially with the way the park will be decorated at night for Christmas. I have even been looking at taking an ultra wide like the Tokina 11-16mm to get some great architectural pics.

Our kids are 8 and 11. This is our first Disney trip, and after this we are moving to Germany for three years. So I kinda want to make sure I get great pics as I don't know when we'll go back.

Well, at the entrances and throughout each park, Disney has staff photographers taking pictures. Get your photopass at the beginning of the day and they'll compile them all for you. Yes you'll have to purchase it, but it's a lot less to worry about.

Just about every "scenic" overlook has a photographer posted. They're literally wandering around Epcot.

Then, like I said, get your candid's and walking around pictures with a good quality P+S like the RX100 so you can actually enjoy your first trip to Disney with your family instead playing photog the whole weekend.

Don't forget to get the Disney parks app and sign up for fastpasses for rides.

That's a great tip Skierd. We bought this Guide Book for Disney World and it's damn near 900 pages long. There is so much to learn about the place that they should offer college level classes on Disney Parks LOL.

I do have a Nikon Coolpix P5000 that's a few years old. It take great pics for a little P+S. I could take that into the park with me.

Kit lens and 3 or 4 hits of acid.

This weekend I carried a 28mm f/1.8 for the first time in a LONG time. Occasionally, I'll carry my 70-200mm or my 55-250mm if I have something very specific in mind.

This weekend I knew I was shooting art and food, so I used the 28mm and 50mm primes for close in and non-distorted shooting.

For architecture, I'll carry completely different stuff... for dark rides, another setup, etc etc.

You can shoot me a PM if you want a link to my Disney photography site... a few thousand pics, including some awful ones! Buuuut... they all have meta data so you can see with what I shot each image.
