I had a portrait session this past weekend for a good friend & after I got home I had somehow shot in Jpeg instead of Raw, no big deal as the exposure's for most shots were close enough to where it should be, thanks AV mode.

Then as I'm culling the pictures I'm noticing I'm having a lower keeper rate than I usually have (looked good on dslr screen) double check my settings on the camera once again & wouldn't you know I had af & metering start assigned to both af on & the shutter button

I think I'm going to spend some time tonight & actually setup my c1-c3 settings & use those going forward.

Anyone else make any mistakes while on a gig only to notice after.

The very first time I caught bull elks sparring my camera was still on full manual from the night before in the studio. Fixed that relatively quickly but didn't get the auto-ISO back on and ended up with a lot of blurry shots. It was traumatic enough that I now habitually check and re-check my settings before and during shooting.

yea, i forgot i was on manual focus once in africa and the shots came out just blurry enough. it was getting dark, there were 100 kids screaming and running into the frame, and a local let my light fall over and hit the sand. luckily, the light survived the fall, and i had plenty of other shots to cover down.

Getting your camera out and finding the battery is dead. Or worse, still in the charger. At home. 200 miles away.

I've become pretty paranoid at making sure my film is fed completely on the winder after developing more than a couple blank rolls.

From college... Lock the door to the blackroom on campus when you're loading film. Make sure your paper is in its bag and locked away in a lightproof box before you turn on the lights in the darkroom to mix up a fresh batch of chemistry.

Fuck things up, move on, learn. I shot a magazine cover at ISO 6400 once by accident, shoved that shit under the rug SUPER hard and no one ever noticed. Try to guess which one it is... \:D

Started shooting an event at 6400 and full power flash, after doing some studio work. Yeah, first few shots didn't turn out like I wanted it.

By the way, the C1-C3 settings (at least in my opinion) should be set after you meter at each shoot you do. Unless the environment is the same each time you shoot, you'll get different results. I hardly use the custom settings only because when my camera goes to sleep and if I've tweaked a setting, it'll revert back to the custom setting I set, which isn't always the appropriate one for the shot i'm taking.

I like to read these threads and learn from them \:D So far, nothing disastrous, just cables left behind, stuff I can work around. I'd like to keep it that way

I once left my pelican case (camera body and all my lenses) sitting next to the door while I was packing the car. Discovered it wasn't there while unloading the car 4 hours away from home.

I'm mainly just doing it to have confidence in knowing the basic's still stay the way I like it button controls, custom settings etc. I agree about the metering. The funny thing is during the shoot I reminded myself to check the settings, but never thought about raw & the button controls which I NEVER touch. It must of happened when I hooked the camera up to focal.
