edit: AF info would be *really* nice. I realize it won't be on par with the 1d's, but let's look at nikon a sec.

Yea it's mostly the high ISO thing... I am only good to like 1000 or so and even that is pushing it. Realistically I never shoot over 400 if it's a "set up" shot aka not a motorsports action shot.

that was my point. canon is so afraid that giving the 5d series AF systems on par with the 1d's, and the ability to hit remotely similar framerates will kill off 1 series sales, that they intentionally cripple the 5d... yet give it astounding color resolution and make it *the* go-to body for print work. I get that there is some specialization, but the 1ds3 has the same fucking sensor and costs 5k more.... all to get a built-in vert. grip and a superior AF.
I really like canon. I'm just hoping they have a really good answer to this pummeling nikon is giving them right now. the 70-200/ii and their fisheye aren't nearly enough to keep up
edit: to clarify, this is purely market analysis, not spec sheet masturbation. I'd do the same with cars at this point.

Actually, having the D700 and the D3 probably HELPED Nikon. It didn't help the fact that those bodies were released around the debacle of the 1D3 so people just jumped ship when they decided they couldn't deal with the fuckery of the 1D3 anymore (myself included).
The two are 95% identical. Just small minor details that separate em.
Never understood why the 5d sucks that much in AF. From what I've heard my friends tell me, even the 7D is better in AF than 5d2

I can't wait until a D700 is affordable for me (xmas was $$$). 
Never realized what a good camera it is until trying out the D200. Maybe by summer I can trade some gear around.
