Yeah I know - carry your DSLR with you... Well I'm looking for a small P&S, preferably <$200, that I can throw in my pocket that does 720P video. I'll mostly be using this when I play paintball so it has to fit in my pocket without much hassle. Having RAW would be a huge plus but I haven't found anything under $350 with RAW as an option (Canon S95) but I haven't looked very hard either.
Only one I've casually found is the Canon S1400 which apparently does 720p video at 30fps.
Again - this will be for when I play paintball and I'm tired of buying cheap POS disposable cameras that have like terrible quality.
Any recommendations?

There's actually a bunch of small video cameras that would do awesome - the gopro, epic stealth cam, contour hd, and a few I'm not thinking of... I haven't ruled any of these out yet, but I like pictures more than video but I'd like to have the options of both.

The S95 is sweet. Not sure if you've ever used one, but it feels solid compared to everything else, and the ring is nice and smooth too. I'd get one, but my phone is good enough most of the time. RAW files are a HUGE plus though...
You're welcome for all the help. Now I want one.

obviously white balance.
/just fuckin around
My green channel is too boosted. LOL.
But seriously - I think the pictures suck ass - I mean that's the highest resolution I can post or view without wanting to stab puppies.
Add on top of the quality, instead of buying $10 disposables for each event (sometimes a few of them), then having to get them developed and put on CD, I typically spend $30-50 an event for this. Figure 3-5 big events a year and I've bought several P&Ss over the past few years alone, and probably a 7D over the course of my life - lol.
So yeah - the more I think about it the more I want the S95, but I'm still wanting to see if there's any other recommendations.

another vote for gopro. it has an option where you can set it to take pictures every few seconds until the memory card is filled up. pretty cool, mount it to wherever and let it go, hands free action pictures. then you can switch over to video.
these were taken with a GoPro to give you an idea on quality

OMFG - notice <$200 and P&S. If I'm buying a gopro/epic stealth/your mom for a night/contour hd/etc... I'll make the decision on my own. So yeah. Here's what I'm looking for - if you have a suggestion that meets the criteria let me know. If you have a suggestion for a little more, again let me know. If you want to recommend another XTREME video camera go kick rocks.
Criteria: <$200 HD Video of 720p @ 30fps preferably SDHC memory carded Can easily fit into a pocket. Not some video camera I have to strap to something. RAW would be awesome!!! If you can find a P&S that fits into a pocket that has RAW for any price I'll look at it. I know of the S95 - anything else.

Yup - I haven't ruled those out - but no where have I asked for opinions on those as I've got more than enough info on those, and experience with them, and your mom. So either help or hit the road.
In all honesty I'll probably be buying a mini camcorder as well (which is what I consider a gopro as regardless of if it takes pictures or not!), but again I'm looking for something different here - a point and shoot! Something with a preview screen, a little bit of zoom, and some actual photography options.
I'll restate for the mindless: P&S, <$200, 720p video, fits in pocket. If you can add RAW to those terms I'll raise my $$$ amount.

Your shots from a $200 point and shoot will look NO better than what you posted above. Mark my words.
I disagree. See those pictures above are the absolute best I can make them look. If I resize them to anything but like 800x600 they suck. I can go over to digital camera review and see that a full res the quality is at least as good as those above at 800x600 on a Canon S1400.

So yeah - the quality is better, I'll eventually be saving money as I don't have to spend an extra like $50 a game on disposables, I'll have a little bit of zoom, and I'll have an option for video.

Ding ding ding!!! I'm willing to accept marginally better with some room to crop for <$200.
Again - in less than one year I can justify the price via savings over disposables. I'll have the ability to take more shots with a P&S and not worry about wasting money getting film developed and find out 50% of my shots are garbage. Again the shots I posted above are the absolute best ones I got and about 1/2 the good shots I got from 3 disposables.
I know, understand, and realize that shots from a <$200 P&S camera are not the best. I'm not going for photographic master pieces, just some pictures to help me remember the great times I have while playing at very big games. It will also help at a few of the fields we play at when we have to grab intel #s from signs - instead of worrying about writing shit down I can take a picture.
And finally I'll also have the chance to take video - just an added bonus if I so choose.
So yeah - I know what I'm getting into, I'm just wondering if anyone has any personal experience or recommendations for a <$200 P&S. Thanks!
