It has been noted that this tiny subset of CSI has the ability to produce some stunning images.

What if we pooled some of our images together to make a photobook?

We could pick a theme and then each dump 5-10 images into the thread before picking the best 30 or so for a book.

I am sure that someone would be willing to work on the layout and we could all paypal a "treasurer" to purchase the books or we could all purchase them individually. Maybe we could even have a little bio section for each of us.

Thoughts?

That's a GREAT idea in theory and I LOVE the sentiment, but I think in practice it will be hard to acheive. Getting it printed well will likely cost a decent chunk of change, and then theres the whole ethics principle of the "treasurer" thing, etc etc.

I'd love to see it happen though!

That sounds good to me. It would be awesome if we could get everyone to play along to where it is 2-3 images per person for variety.

Doesn't hurt to try.

http://www.blurb.com This is a link that either Scooter Geek or 2000SiRacer (Eric) posted before.
http://www.blurb.com/create/book/pricing

We can make the book and then make it public so that it can be purchased by each indidual or we can do a group buy discount if we can get more then 10 copies sold together.

I know I'm late to the party, but yeah, it's all about blurb.com I've done two books through them and I'm completely happy.

So blurb looks like a good idea and we can each buy our own copy so we won't have to deal with handling the money as a group.

Also, we have four who said they would contribute (PA2KFPBSI, Mike, SiSteve and Nate). There are a couple who have shown interest buy have not committed to contribute.

We need some volunteers, I am thinking 2-3, to organize and edit the content. I would enjoy working on the layout and formatting but would someone be willing to do the post production on the images to give them a cohesive look? I guess the first question would be do we want a cohesive look?

We could make this a 2011 project to be "published" by the end of the year.

I think you'll have a lot of people give submissions once it's stated what the theme would be.

And I like the idea of having it not cohesive as everyone's style is different for post work. I guess it really is going to boil down though to who submits what and what the theme is.

i run a photo club here at work (coincidentally we're meeting today) and we did a book project last year. Our theme was Opposites and people were to submit two opposing photos - fire/water, up/down, inside/outside, etc. etc. It was pretty fun.

It would be cool to get a theme where people have to submit multiple images. Or say, everyone do a diptych and use opposing pages as their canvas.

How creative can we get with these books? Something like that sounds awesome or even something a little more trivial but longer term like 'Automotive Seasons' and have 4 different sections for each season with different car pics.

The only thing I really don't want to see is this becomes only a few people with all the images. Obviously I don't want to see a bunch of crap photos just to have everyone in the book, but I'd like to think with a lot of foresight and help we could get 10+ people with pictures in the book.

I just used that as a demonstration - in no way am I suggesting it. Just something a little more broad that would encompass more variety in a book broken up a little bit, but not too much.

Well if we're not doing paintball I guess I won't participate either \:D . I'll try my best though to get at least one good submission regardless of the theme. It's worth a shot.

I'm down for whatever kind of stipulations you guys want as far as what subjects are allowed/disallowed, like I said I would love to contribute some stuff but I don't want to be part of organizing it. I think it could be a really fun idea, and I for one would love to have a reason to make myself go shoot something different than what I'm used to shooting.

My only one comment would be please no baby or kid pictures. That shit is super duper gay to anyone who is not in the family and has no business being in a collaboration book like this. Exception would be like some sort of a cool art shot but none of that hallmark shit please (you KNOW what I mean)

following onto your idea, what about an hour project?

Everyone is spread out around the country (some around the globe). What if everyone took a photo at the same time?

We could choose 3pm Eastern (or any arbitrary time) and have everyone take a picture during that hour. 12noon in Cali, 9am in Hawaii, 5am in Japan, etc. etc.

what do you think?

MBH - I like your idea but there might either be a lot of clustering or we would have to cut alot of entries out to keep it to one per time zone.

no need to limit it to one per time zone - GB and I are on the east coast, but we might have vastly different subjects for that hour.

I LOVE MBH's idea. "1 hour of clubsi..." all photos submitted taken in a 12 hour period. That'd be BADASS.
