I'm looking to spend around 500. I have been looking at the cannon slr what do you guys think? Is there a better camera in the same price range?

What's interesting about these digital medium format is that their sensor size isn't "full frame" per se

36.7×49.1 mm is the size of the H4D which is basically a 6x4.5 design. 56 × 41.5 should be the sensor size if it's "full frame" \:D

They're cheaping out on us

mcdahc - Define better.

Nikon and Canon both make fine cameras. Nikon has just released the D3100 which is pretty impressive for being the bottom of the line.

when you say "camera" and "slr" we think body only. 500 gets you a decent body... so what will you do about lenses?

For the lower end cameras i prefer nikon fit and finish. If you want video at all Get a canon T2i or better.

If you can stand to spend a little more you can probably find a used Nikon D90 for around that range, (great camera).
