saw an ad on craigslist yesterday for a canon AE-1 with the standard 50mm, a canon FD 70-210 f/4 and a few other accessories for $90. Been wanting an AE-1 for a while now.
Dude shows up, I advance the frame winder, click the shutter, and nothing... shutter doesn't work.
FUUU!
but... now I am wondering... can you fire the shutter in the AE-1 without film in it? you must be able to, right?
Anyway, even beyond that, the guy and I clearly have a different idea of what "excellent shape" means considering how there was some nasty corrosion on the body itself.

I did not get the camera, but I did get over 100 sheets of matte ilford rc paper and four rolls of film for free. Sometimes craigslist makes a bad day good.

unless your going to shoot Nikon, Panny, ,etc.. i wouldnt invest in any FD glass as it doesnt work well with newer canon stuff (unfortunately). Your better off with older Nikon glass if you want some cheap thrills and want to shoot either nikon or canon.

the first camera I ever really used was an AE-1 and I want one now mostly for nostalgia reasons.
I went to a photo show today, mostly old stuff, and for $12 I picked up:
300mm f/5.5 lens for my Praktica camera - $2
2x extender for the above lens - $2
3 5x7 developing trays - $3
safelight for the darkroom + extra glass safelight filter - $1
Bell & Howell 8mm film camera (working) with case - $1
4 graduates for chemicals - $1
film tongs - $1
complete set of contrast filters for my enlarger - $1
I know this is even cheap by Jon! standards, but fuck, I got an amazingly good deal on this stuff.
Still... no good AE-1 to be had at the show.

Those shows are awesome for guys that like older cams.
I bought a cable release for my hassy plus ton of ilfords and fujichrome back in april and only spent 20 bucks or so
