I have a OBD1 B16 out of a 97 Del Sol that I'm putting into my 2000 hx which threw a rod. I got a engine harness that does not wish to work, and on top of that the one that came with the engine was junk.

I have a P30 ECU I'm trying to use, just need to know what wire harness I should use. Some have told me to use OBD2a style with a OBD2a to OBD1 conversion harness.

As always all help is greatly appreciated.

Charlie,

Are you sure the B16 is OBD1? 97 Del Sol's came with B16's from the factory, running a P30 ECU but are OBD2a. I'll assume you are sure it's OBD1.

The best way to go about that swap is to pull the wire harness off of your 2000 HX, and put it onto the B16. Some plugs will line up, others wont. The plugs that wont reach, add more wire to extend them. For plugs that are a different style, you have 2 options. You can clip the plug off of your HX harness and solder on the plug from the B16 harness or vice versa. The only thing that might give you trouble is the O2 sensor. I believe the are a 5 or 7 wire O2 on the HX while the B16 uses a 4 wire. You'll need to check a service manual to figure out which wire is what, and put the 4 wire plug on the harness.

If the ECU is OBD 1 and you use your 2000 HX wire harness, then you need to get an OBD2b -> OBD1 jumper harness from someplace like rywire.com.

I hope this helps.

I tried that but here's the big issue, the harness is Auto and I converted to manual (I should have said that) I tried before and the bitch didnt start. I dont know maybe it's the crank position sensor missing that is the big issue there. I'll check it out then post back up.

The auto and manual engines all use the same sensors.

What did you do to the wiring where you removed the automatic gear position lever? There is a "safety" that checks to make sure the tranny is in park or nuetral before it will allow it to start. Did you tie those 2 wires together to bypass the (now removed) sensor? Did you wire up the sensor on the clutch pedal (the starter interupt?).

i didn't wire up the starter interupt, but i did jump the neutral safety switch I tried using a 97 ex auto harness as well, it started after 45 minutes of trying ran for a bit, turned it off then tried starting it again for the same BS to happen. but the auto harness for the hx I have is very similar in number of plugs like a obd2a set up

Ok, so the motor will crank just fine. You're ok there.

When you turn the key 2 clicks do you get a check engine light? Or after you are cranking on it, are you getting one?

Which Crank sensor are you referring to, the crank position sensor in the distributor or the crank fluctuation sensor, which goes down by the timing belt? If the ECU is OBD1, it wont look for the crank fluctuation sensor, and I dont think you can remove the crank position sensor from the distributor.

Have you verified that you are getting spark when cranking? Have you verified that the timing is correct? Set the engine to TDC and make sure the crank pulley and cam pulleys all line up correctly.

EDIT: Also verify your firing order is correct also.
