How u doing i have a 1998 honda civic ex...im on a debate on the swap i am looking on swapping my current engine with a b16c..im looking to purchase it from hmotorsonline.com they have two choices the B18C 94-95 (GSR) Motor, Tranny, ECU OR the B18C 94-97 (GSR) Complete Change Over.

url (http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=category&keyword=JDM%20USDM%20Engines&hit=5)

my question to you guys is should i choose the complete change over or just the motor, tranny, ecu?? im also looking on going turbo, so is this a good choice for engine? is there anything else i have to buy/change to make this swap work?

Hi,

You're going to want the complete changeover. The motor, trany, ecu deal does not come with mounts, shift linkage, or axles. You will need all of those parts to complete your swap. For boost, the GSR motor is a vey good option. Plenty of people have built them up so you should be able to easily find the parts you need and advice from other builders.

That complete swap comes with all the major pieces you need. If you intend to keep power steering or A/C let Hmotors know when you call, so that you will get the right parts. You'll need little things like a GSR throttle cable, radiator hoses, fluids, maybe some vacuum line. Basically small parts you should be able to get from your local parts house. Be sure to read Hmotors warranty, you'll want to do the timing belt and water pump at the time of the swap and they also list some other parts that are recommended to change.

If you've never done something like this before and dont have anyone to help you through it, a shop is a good idea. I dont know anywhere in New York, maybe check the regional forums and see if someone local can help you or can recommend a place to take it.

Nope, you wont need to do any tuning unless you modify parts of the swap (larger injectors, higher compression pistson, etc. Intake, header, and exhaust dont count). You'll be running the factory ECU from that engine originally, so its already tuned to the engine.

I dont know what kind of inspection you have in New York. In WA we had an OBD2 scan test. You may have to find a USDM ecu to pass this test. If the OBD2 scan failed, they usually just did the sniffer, which was no problem passing. If you have a visual, I dont know. I'd recommend checking with your local authority before purchasing the swap or ask someone in your state that already has gone through the process.
