Hey guys,

I am in the middle of deciding the price point for the Video + Data Logger (VDL) that I am creating. Basically this unit will record telemetry such as speed, G force, RPM, and Lap Times based on GPS tracking. This unit will also simultaneously record and overlay video via a video camera that will be included with the base unit; perfect for immediate viewing in between track sessions.

Base Unit includes:
1. VDL unit
2. 1x Camera
3. SD card
4. Cigarette lighter power adapter.

This unit is universal for all types of cars. Most track guys will love this unit and I believe enthusiasts like yourself may be interested as well for other applications.

What is the price range that you are willing to buy this product for?

1. 299-399
2. 399-499
3. 499-599
4. 599-699

Thanks for your time and I will update you guys on the status of this unit. I think this unit will be available by the next SEMA and I will most likely be selling this item as a sponsor on this site.

I'm interested, but probably wouldn't buy it for autocross, it would be more useful for track days. The problem with autocross is that you only get a few runs and thats it, after that its off to a different course.

Maybe if it came in at a good price with the camera and mount, and an ability to measure power (street dyno), but it really depends on what the price would be with everything included.

Datalogging is just as valuable for autocrossers as road racers, especially for testing.

How senstive will the GPS unit be? I've seen units that turn an autocross course into a loose blob and others that could double as a course map. How good of a video camera is coming with the kit? How will it mount to the car? Will the DL box require tapping into the various sensors or will it work wirelessly? Bluetooth/wireless capable for use with downloading/viewing on PDA's and pocket computers? What format will the video file be in, and will there be any proprietary software needed to view the log/video simultaneously? Will battery power be an option, as I dont want wires running around getting in my way while I'm trying to drive.

GPS will be pretty sensitive. Minimum is 5hz. The camera will be 520 lines with low lux. we will probably provide some mounting mechanism for the cameras. DL box will require tapping into other sensors if you have aftermarket sensors. We will be expanding into OBDII later for specific cars. Wireless will be capable as an accessory. Video file format has not be determined but should be compatible with NTSC and MPEG. Yes there will be a software needed to view both the log and video simultaneously. We will most likely provide a software that does some analysis as well. hrm. battery power, interesting question, I'll keep that in mind
