I am acquiring a set of Hawk HP+ brake pads (Thanks CivicRacerExR!) and currently have Falken Ziex 512 all-season tires on my car. I am seeking opinions on whether I should put the pads on now, or wait until I get a set of RT-615s. Am I likely to learn more using these pads and tires, or will I most likely just add more strain on my already overwhelmed tires?

I would hold off on putting the pads on til you get stickier rubber. The higher friction coefficient of the HP+ pads is probably going ot cause your all seasons to lock up if you are not careful.

Well, I know that much is true because I can lock them up with the crappy pads I've got on there now. What I'm wondering is if I might learn anything valuable from that as a driver, or if I'm just going to get frustrated.

You'll probably lock the tires up easier, but the HP+'s are nice pads (they're on the front of my car now). Since you're replacing the tires anyways, go out and learn how to threshold brake with the new pads with the crappy old tires you wont mind flatspotting. \:\)

I would personally learn on stock brakes. There's a little bit more learning curve on the HP+ pads. Getting to know what lock up feels and learning to release/add pressure to be on the verge lock-up is a learned feeling.

You are basically making your braking foot your ABS. Once you get the hang of it then throw on the HP+ pads. Best way to learn is attend a driving school or autocross school if your region offers it.

The worse thing that can happen is you flat spot your tires and on your daily driving tires that would be annoying and could be dangerous. Other thing that can happen is you lock up your brakes and panic and not release enough to gain traction and run into something.

Actually, this may be a non-issue now. I may be getting a set of tires by the next autocross and our Novice school on the 21st of April. Then all I have to worry about is adjusting to the HP+ pads and new tires at the same time. \:\/

Personally I would still learn on the stock brakes. Sometimes you can do too many mods to the car at once especially new tires AND brakes.
