I did my first Auto-X yeserday in my new '06 Si. It is completely stock down to the shitty all season Michelins. It was also raining yeterday in Tulsa. This was my first time to really even drive the car hard other than just banging through the gears and it was amazing! I have never run in the rain before, but alot of guys were talking about having to run in the rain at Nationals. I actually felt really comfortable in wet conditions. Anyway, the car is awesome. It is so stable and balanced. It never did feel very heavy even through the tight slalom section. Great power, great suspension, great LSD, shitty tires. Anyone going to thinking about Auto-X in this car I highly recomend it. The car is very rewarding and FUN AS HELL!

Glad to hear you had fun! So did you spank some Mini Cooper butt?

Yeah we have a couple guys here running 06 Civic Si's. One guy running Hoosiers I believe and doing fairly well and he also drives a Mini Cooper S. Haven't had time to ask him which one is faster.

I did win GS, but I attribute that to the rain. One guy in our NeOkla division is running a Ford Contour with R-Comps on it. He is a descent driver, but never had any traction in the rain. The two Mini Cooper's out there were older guys that are just having fun. Not really that competitive yesterday. Some kid showed up in a Chrysler Sebring... that was funny. I'll take a win anyway I can get it!

We had an event last night that was cancelled due to lightening. For whatever reason, we rarely see ANY Coopers in stock classes. A few show up for ST(whatever) class, but stock is pretty much Cooper-less...at least at the club level.

Congrats on the win! Still looking for my first.

cool welcome to the gang! i'm running mine on 245/45/17 Azenis 615's. Just in my local street tire class, but i'm jumping into r-comps next year. i've been doing well, although Sam and I got mopped by minis at the National Tour in Milwaukee. if you get the chance take it road racing, it handles itself very nicely out there (did 2 trackdays at GingerMan in South Haven,MI)

Night?! What kind of event insurance did you need to get to cover that???

LOL...I actually don't know who our insurance provider is, but we ARE insured. We're new to autox, and new to the club.

Our club actually has 2 points series; Day Series and Nite Series. The day events (5) are held at a local mall on Sundays. The Nite Series events (5 also)are held on Tuesday evenings at another venue. Normally, the first RG runs in daylight and the second runs at dusk/dark.

We usually have as good, if not better, turn-out for the Nite events. I think the rationale behind it's conception was to offer racing sometime besides weekend afternoons...to allow those of us who don't have "banker's hours" a chance to race. For whoever thought of it, it's really been quite a success.

We generally have several Hondas in the field. There is one 1st G CRX that either nails FTD, or is right there at it, in SM2.

If anyone's in the area for our next event, check us out!

We will be going to R-comps in the off-season, btw, on 1st G CRX alloys (saved 16 lbs.!) Simply aren't going to be competitive in HS without them. May still not win, but we'll be closer! Plan to also upgrade to Konis. Slowly, during the season, we'll finish out with the other stock allowances.

NIght events are so fun. THe local Porsche Club has an event at night. Last year I showed up with my Azenis and Tire Flies on my valve stems Everyone rolled their eyes at me til I pulled in FTD by almost a second on street tires

The course was about 115 seconds long with a 400' skid pad.

Tire Flies are those valve stem caps that light up

Yeah they can run courses like that because at Hershey Park no one is there after 9pm. So they have the WHOLE lot. And only about 20 peopel show up to their events.

I know the Vegas region literally has to run night events in July and August, just too damn hot to be out racing at high noon in the desert.

The more I hear about the new Si, the more I want to drive one in anger to see the difference.

If those are your mods in your sig, looks like you're gonna be in STS. I was STRONGLY considering bumping up to STS and wanted dual purpose tires. Had we bumped up, we would've gone with the Azenis 615's hands down. They are comparable in price to the crappy all-seasons we bought at Wally World!!!

Actually he would be in STX since the 06 Si has an LSD. Then you should get Azenis in 245/40x17" size. That should fit or a 235/45x17".

The V710 fits in that size, so I'd imagine the Azenis would.

STS, STX and many other 2-3 letter groupings tossed around on this part of the forum (and others) refer to the various SCCA Solo and occasionally Club Racing classes. Go here to get more info:
http://www.scca.com/
http://www.scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/2006_solo_rules.pdf

And speaking from the SvA thread, you should seriously consider coming out to this weekends autocross at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. I will be at the football game myself, but the Autocrosser's Inc guys are a good group and there's plenty of people there who'd be able to get you up to speed.

Yeah but Kumho makes their tires the size they are supposed to be. Falken makes their tires wider than normal.

Like Falken's 205/50x15" is more a 215/50x15" or 225/50x15".

Yes 235's will fit the stock width rim. Sam Karp runs 245's with a spacer on a 7" rim and says he has no rubbing issues. Not sure the offest he has though. 225's are really probably all you need. If you want a decent street and auto-x tire go with the Kumho MX($100 each at Tire Rack) or for a little better auto-x tire go with the Azenis(around $124 each at Discount Tire).

I don't run the spacers. I had them in case I needed them, but never ended up throwing them on! The only rubbing I got was the inner fender well on the front. Only under full lock as well. There is a little coating missing there from hard cornering. Also, the tall 245 I was running caused a couple of fender liner clips to come out.

Not major though! BTW-they are 45 offset wheels, same offset as stock.

Oops... sorry Sam. I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. I just remeber a thread listing your set up and people asking if you hads any rubbing issues. Nice job at Nationals by the way. Kick some more Mini butt!!

No worries. I actually would run the spacers if I actually took the time to get some good ones!

I bought some cheapies off of ebay just in case I would need them after doing some alignment tweaks. They were so poorly made, I did'nt want to risk putting them on and having them crack (unless I had to).

H&R makes good spacers. Looks like they are about $70 on the H&R website. 5mm should do just fine. You coming over to OK to do some of our autocrosses? Cheers!

Thanks for the info and the invite.
I usually run at Little Rock and Texarkana, maybe Walnut Ridge this year.
I might try to do some track days at Hallet.
Thanks again,
